I found this ad and felt that I should share it on the forums. Some say the 83 exists somewhere, but I'm not so sure. What if, by some odd occurance, this person does have an 83 Corvette? http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/497881471.html
Not a chance in hell he has an '83 (unless he broke into the NCM and hauled it off). Thats a color scheme of the 84 and up to ?? models. They never painted any of the 83's that scheme. It could be a repaint but looks factory from the small amount of pictures.
He just received this email:
1983???? The only surviving 1983 Corvette is currently residing in the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Maybe yours is a 1984?

I have some at home too. It's white with black interior. The paint is not great, the wheels are ugly, it doesn't look like the one of a kind that it is.
46 made, the one in the NCM is the only known survivor.
IMOAO there are a lot of '83 Vettes. Any made before 09/83 are '83s even though GM called them '84s. The Vettes made in March '83 meet the federal requirements for '84 so they were called '84s.
This is the official 83 at the NCM.

Ding, Ding, Ding and we have a winner!
So was the NCM 83 maybe actually made in 82?
If so I would guess from a purely technical view-point one could say GM manufactured two models in 1982, one was sold and the other would have been an 83 model if produced.
Lets see, how far back do we want to take this? was the first 53 actually produced in 52? My 03 Z was actually produced in November of 2002, is it an 02? Oh my head, it's a bustin' with all the figurin'
But for all practical purposes GM produced no Corvettes for the 1983 year
GM seems to have a habbit of this no matter what the reason. They lost the IROC contract mid production in 1990. So the 91 camaro came out early. Lots of 91's....not too many 90's.

I find it funny that some people say that 46 83's were made, that last link said 47 were actually made, but i was just down at the NCM this past weekend and according to the little sign in front of the ONLY Corvette with a 1983 VIN NUMBER that 43 were produced, most of them were crushed, some were tagged with a 1984 VIN NUMBER. So i'm assuming that if you have an early enought 84 vette (Like one with a production number less then 44) you have one of those 83's that was retagged with the 84 VIN number. However, if you do have one of those, i'm sure that you would know this and your car would probably be worth millions and i'm sure every corvette enthusiast out there would know about you. The fact that we don't about you or your car, i'm assuming that all of the original 43 except for the one in NCM are destroyed
No such beast as an '83 C4 Corvette. Only one actual 1983 C4 Corvette exists and it isn't yours. The only, and I do mean only, 1983 C4 Corvette in existence is in the National Corvette Museum. GM made 44 1983 Corvettes, all but 1 of the 44 produced were destroyed by GM. Production was delayed and the new Corvette did not go on sale until March of '83, and it was sold as the 1984 model year.
The Corvette in your driveway is NOT an '83 and the title for the car depicts this fact.
