I drove my 89 coupe the other day, and the heater just blew cold air. The hoses on the core were both warm. It has the automatic climate control. Any ideas ?
If the air blows on you're feet and it's cold, it sounds like the diverter door has become detached or stuck. There is a small aluminum device near the passenger side firewall area (accessed from the engine compartment) that you can remove with a couple of screws which you can then look into and see the diverter doors postion.

that "device' is the resistor (blower control module) for the blower. it is finned as in a heat sink. looking up under the dash at the actuator motor, you'll see a rod and a clip (white) attached to the motor. if the clip is broken you'll have to hunt around for another one since they are discontinued. just visually looking at it is not enough as the rod could be stripped where it goes into the clip. i was fortunate as to finding a source for mine. lastly, the same clip set-up exists in the blend door which you will see when you remove the module(as above). good luck.
Went out Saturday and started the car, the heat came on, and was warm like it should be. The only thing I did was to leave the climate control on heater when I shut the car off. I am beginning to believe the door might be getting stuck as well.

Question.....
Does anyone know if the location to check on the mixing door can be checked in the same manner on a 93? I ran a diagnostic on the system using the A/C control panel and the code was 01 and 02 which was the mixing valve circuit fault. Got the service manulas for a 93 so I found the diagnostic in them.

Mine too. I just leave it on 79 and it seems to let the heat out if I am patient. The second you turn it to auto or try to reduce or increase the temp or adjust the HVAC system it shuts down and gets cold.
It's almost as if in 30 degree weather it would be warmer to take off the roof.
