So I tinted my rear hatch really dark (5%) and ever since then I can not see out of it that well in the dark... Sometimes it is so bad I have to open my door and stick my head out... Is there a way I can get brighter bulbs for the reverse lights so i can see better....

MADVET sells a set of halogen bulbs. I’ve been thinking of that mod myself
Part number 601-911 $19.99

One of the downsides to dark tint. I don't think brighter bulbs would really help that much though. It's just very difficult to see out of dark windows at night.

Well it can’t hurt. Tint in Arizona is essential I am pretty sure the same statement can be made about some parts of CA as well. I was so glad to store my clear top this summer for a solid top I bought from another forum member. I felt like I was driving in an easy bake oven lol

Oh yeah, it's worth a try. I just wouldn't get your hopes up.
If I'm not mistaken, bulb # 2396 is the same style as the 1156, but a little bit brighter. It's still an incandescent bulb. You could try looking through the buyers guide in any parts store to see if you can find another match with more candlepower. Worth a shot for a couple bucks.
I gave the halogens a try, didn't do squat. I also have the tint on the hatch. When one burnt out after only 2 months use I put the plain old 1156 back in.
I'm in the same boat. I just need to measure the size of the bulbs in there to determine how many LEDs I can get. They offer 12, 19, 24, or 30 - LED bulbs. I just don't know if the 30 would fit in the housing. That would be AWESOME though.

Yeah its says the 30 is oversized and would probably require a little dremeling.

Hmm based on this testimonial I think I will give the LEDs a try
I have the same problem with my 5% tint. I bought a small reverse camera with night vision, that I'm going to mount in the center of my license plate.
Ya, I'm a sucker for gizmo's
