I am finally getting my '84 Vette Here on the 31st I am turning 21 and my grandma who owns it is giving it to me for my b-day!!! She has promised me this day would come since I had my first amazing ride in it with her. The only problem is she and the car are in Florida and I live in Ohio. Well anyway since it is going to be a while before I actually get my hands on it, does anyone have any suggestions on some things to start looking into doing to it. It is basically stock, has automatic transmission, and is a hardtop vert. Anyone have any ideas?
Welcome aboard!
My first sugestion would be to use your christmas money to buy a bus ticket and gas! You got to go get that girl! If your girl was several states away, you'd go get her. This IS NOW your girl...GO get her!
Congrats on getting your first Corvette. WARNING--It WILL become a lifelong addiction. Don't start planning mods, instead read all you can on here about what breaks and how to fix it. Plan your scheduled maintenance, oil, other fluids, belts, hoses, plugs, wires, how to care for the seats, the weatherstripping, even the carpeting. Then worry about what you might want to mod later. Oh yeah--maybe try to find a set of FSMs for it.
also check this forum out as it has lots of good info about the crossfire motor which your car has (unless someone swapped a carb or another system on it). http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/
My advice...Read anything you can about your 84. Here, library, Google Corvette, even check out slease-bay. Once you get it people will ask about it and and you will be proud that you know about it and it wasn't just a gift. Welcome to this Madness.
Yea, here's a bunch:
1. learn to use the search function/archive posts, and do your research.
2. Get a FSM for your yr and start reading.
3. Save your money as parts will be required for replacement.
Congrats on the upcoming ride, beats paying for it!!
Plenty of Crossfire guys here that will guide you along your path to 84 ownership . The words CFI-EFI will become very familiar to you.
