I have owned my vette since 1994. Love it, but have paint problem I help with..
Bought the car in '94 was a year old. It had been hit on right front/side - not bad. I bought all new parts and had it repaired by a well respected body shop. New hood and pass door, rt front suspension. Entire car was repainted. About four years later started getting bubbles behind drivers door near where roof pillar meets body. They fixed at no charge. Same thing again two years later - again they fixed for free. They started showing up again last year, and now is really bad. One piece is about the size of a deck of cards. There are also blisters on the other side of the car near the rear side marker light.
I now live in North Carolina - anybody know of any decent shops around this area? Not looking for a show car paint job, just decent factory type. And want to permanently get rid of the blisters. Any help or ideas would be great.
Where in NC? Best bet is to search on line for a Corvette club in your area and attend a meeting. They will know the local shops that are experienced in painting Vettes as well as any other services you may need.
There is a local shop in winterville, NC that did a friend of mines '64 paint job. It is great and this shop is a certified vette warranty repair shop. will get the number and name for you if interested.
Talk to E&J Automotive in New Bern, (252) 638-8226. I've been there for some work on my pickup and there is corvette related stuff all over their waiting room. I asked them if that meant they're not afraid to do paint work on corvettes, and apparently they consider it a specialty. Won't hurt to call, anyway- hope it helps-
ZRTman1 the number for the repair shop in Winterville NC.
Quality Collision Repair, Reedy Branch Road, 252-355-5005
Hope it helps, i have seen there paint work and know that they have done other classic corvette repair / paint jobs
I keep having the same problem on my hood... Some A-hole hit me a month after I bought it and the body shop put a used hood on it that was super clean, they stripped it but for some reason it kept blistering in the same areas... infact it was repainted 3 or 4 times and now almost 3 years later its back getting the same issues adressed... They are a great body shop I am not bashing them and they definately stand by their work... From what I understand its a prep issue and primer issue... They found when they switched out the solvent based primer for some other type of primer that the paint adhered better.... I dont know... but all I know is someone is getting free winter storage out of the deal
For a corvette to be painted right you need a corvette painter. Corvettes are unique in their prep and application. Prep is everything on a corvette along with using the same system for the whole car. Same primer, base, and clear from the same company. A lot of production shops have standard materials they use for all vehicles. This dont work for a corvette. Find someone who primarily paints corvette and you will find someone who knows what they are doing....G
zrtman1... there's a shop about 30 minutes away from you that does a lot of Corvette restorations. One of their cars was sold at Barrett-Jackson in Palm Beach last year... http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli.../w_search.aspx
Sent you a PM...
due to ''green'' protests, clueless politicos, etc., paint formulations have changed so greatly and rapidly in the USA (not off-shore tho)that NO one has experience with currently available finishes during the last decade...most paint shops have raised prices for their work to cover ''reworks'' for those customers who complain...be polite but firm and you should be treated to a free re-do with ''this weeks flavor''.

Sounds like my STS - kept redoing the hood. Turned out the car had sat under a pine tree and the sap had soaked in all the way to the base coat. Stripped it to bare metal, primed/sealed and repainted - no more problem.
