1984 corvette
I went and test drove that 84 and was really inpressed! It might have only had 205 hp but I agree, it felt like alot more. It had about 100,000 miles on the clock but ran like a scalded dawg. I passed on that car but it really openned my eyes to the C4 line. I later snagged a 89 which we drive the snot out of.
Don't let anybody dog ur car. If you like it. That is all that matters!
I have news for ya kid, the fact that your 17 & already a Vette owner puts you leaps & bounds ahead of most 17 year olds & many adults who only dream of owning ANY Vette at all.
Drive & shine your Vette & be proud!
Don't worry about trying to find "good things" to say about your car to counter what ignorant people say.
The best thing about your '84 is that it's yours! The fact that you have any Vette at 17 years old is a major plus. Hell how many of us had Vettes for a first car? I would have killed for an 84 Vette as a first car. (granted it would have been a 6 year old car at the time, but even a low power 76 would have been a killer first car.)
Like the other guys said, stick around here and talk to real Vette people. Glad to have you on board.
Glad to hear that the 84 is a "family car." My old man sold his 86 Vette 3 months before I got my learners' permit.
Hold on to that car, you won't regret it.
I also heard that the 1984 Corvette was faster than a 1984 Cobalt. Since there wasnt such a thing. The comparison then is a 2006 Corvette against a 2006 Cobalt. It sounds like sour grapes to me.

By the way that was your grandfathers 84 have a little respect for him, sounds like a great guy. I have seen an article in GM high tech with a 84 vette with nitrous go high elevens, under $3000.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I am sure the girls in your school do not know the horsepower of the 84 Corvette, all they know is that is a Corvette.
Now, let's address the issue of other Corvette owners bagging on the 84 (or any other year for that matter). I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 98% of all Corvette owners appreciate all Corvettes for what they were in their heyday, and the legacy they helped perpetuate. The other 2% are playing a game. The game is called "mine is better".
People generally play "mine is better" for one simple reason....they're insecure. They validate their own manhood, importance, whatever by degrading others....through whatever means available....be it their job, car, home, significant other, etc. Folks who are secure in themselves, no matter how extravagant or modest, don't feel the need to do this. Quite the opposite in fact. These folks feel better by complimenting and encouraging others.
So...if you encounter someone who's playing "mine is better"....remember this...it takes two to play. Simply ignore them, and you render the game ineffective.
Enjoy your car son.....Took me 34 years to get my first Corvette. Which I've had for 10 years now....which just happens to be an 84. I still love it as much as the day I brought it home. Don't let anyone take away from the enjoyment you get from the car.
Cheers.

Here's a link that may give you some info you didn't know about your '84.
The Historical Notes at the bottom may make you feel better about your 24 year old Corvette and what it did for sports cars in general.
