1984 corvette
If you don't think there's anything positive about your 84, sell it now, hurry. Go buy that Cobalt.
Maybe the next owner of your car will appreciate that even though the car is 24 years old, it still runs out strong. Maybe he'll understand it's the first year of a major redesign. Maybe that new owner will appreciate that the 84 handles like it's on rails, and is very competitive in handling, even with today's cars. Maybe the new owner will appreciate the lines, and the feel of a classic car. And finally, maybe the new owner will realize it's a 24 year old car, and that technology advances. That a 1984 Corvette is a nice machine, but it's a 1984, not a 2008 Corvette.
All of those things seem to escape you. If you're looking for someone to validate your ownership of that car, you aren't ever going to be happy with it.

Mod your 84.
Sell it and get a ricer.
Whine about it being a crappy slow vette.
Study your history. In the 70s there was a gas shortage, and American car makers were making the worst cars they ever made. A 1976 Corvette is possibly the worst Corvette ever made. It had about 176 HP.
The 1984 Corvette signifies the beginning of the end of making slow, lumbering Corvettes. The 1984 is the first Corvette to handle like a real sportscar.
But if your ricer buddies are going to annoy you when they talk about how a Cobalt SS could dust your car, maybe you need a different car?

If you're 17 and thinking about compeating in a speed contest of any description, your folks should confiscate your keys immediately.
You should be cruising, not racing, and for that your '84 is perfect.
I meant on the street.

How many people still maintain their 1984 Civics or Preludes?
NOW as mentioned above, you DO have a good car in many different ways. If you are going to do any auto-X racing, you have a GOOD staat with the 84. You are correct that it only has 200 +/- HP BUT it does have good torque and this is why it fells faster than 200 HP.
Spend some time on this forum and use the search function to learn all you can about your 84 and you will see that there are alot of GOOD things about it and what you can do to make it better. There are alot of mods you can do to the cross fire and some in here love them and are pretty fast. Others take the cross fire off and replace it with a TPI or carburator.
If you spend enough time and get enough info from this site you will be able to just laugh off the comments about the car. At the end of the day it is still a VETTE and not a COBALT!
FORGOT TO ADD!!!! Look at how many functions and events are corvette related compared to the Cobalt and other cars. You will find that you can fill EVERY weekend of the summer with some sort of function if you want.

This topic has been beat to death and the '84 comes out looking pretty damn good every time.
Listen dude, all your ricer buddies are insanely jealous that you have a Vette. They will say anything to validate the fact that they just spent "X" dollars trying to hot rod a '93 Civic pizza wagon.
Yes, there are newer cars with insane HP. That fact will not leave anytime soon. But a Clean 23 year old car is always always respected. No matter how much HP or lack thereof. Notice the key phrase....."Clean 23 year old car"
If you have stickers and a wing stuck on that vette.......well I won't continue

take that back!!

And I quote: "I have an 84 vette that I love but a lot of vette guysare telling me.............."
A tremendous amount of the guys around here will "talk smack" about owners of '84 crossfires. They don't seem to appreciate the fact that it is a corvette and was a world class (as stated earlier) sportscar in '84. Some of the guys around here do appreciate that fact.
Don't let it get you down.
My Father had me drag racing as soon as I was legal in a car. Took me to a local track almost every weekend and let me "run it out" as much as I could. I guarantee that if it had not been for that.......would have been racing in other ways (ways not allowed to be disussed here
).I did not have the opportunity to x-cross then but that would have been a BLAST. Watch the show Pinks some time. It's all about street style drag racing done in a legal manner.
Will also add that taking it to a x-cross event can teach you so much more about the handling of the car than you could ever learn just using it for normal daily driving (and have a ball doing it).
Again......don't let the naysayers bring you down about owning a wonderful vehicle!
All my buds had to give me poop for running a hich school chick around in my car (she was a little hottie though)!!
...My c4 handles like a dream ( with better brakes ans a lowered suspension and the TPIS ZR1 Cat-back )
pretty quick for a cfi injected Vette and is quick for its 1st race on the 1/8 mile

Go here for a forum just for crossfires-you'll learn a bit about your car and its future potential!

There are so very easy mods to match the stock 85 and some 86's hp. Which is only 235. 205 isn't all that far away. Underneath that intake lies a 350 Small block just like the rest of them.
You can start your research here...http://www.crossfire.homeip.net a lot of good info there, and a lot of free mods that work.
I am now a true believer in the 84 and will never change my opinion on it. For your first vette I feel it's a perfect car to learn on. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, what matters is your opinion its your car not there's.
You'll eventually get caught up in that crossifire.... most of us do!
