Having owned 3 Vettes (96, 97, 99) I would say that each has its merits.

Owning any year Vette is a step in the right direction. :yesnod:

As far as letting my C5 sit around I guess thats how I've racked up 35K on the odometer ;)

2thdr and myself are at the track 2 - 3 times a month and we are usually the only vettes there. Unless SW is running that 7 litre Monster of his!

Lets skip the infighting and pound on the blue oval guys or the ever deserving import crowd. :D

Now I've done it! All my import and mustang friends are going to start chiming in to give me a hard time.

Peace my Brothers!

Hopefully Im about to become gainfully employed again and get ready to purchase a new car. My options are 99 FRC to drive daily or 88 Callaway and a honda civic to take the daily abuse. The attitude of some C5er's makes me wanna get that Callaway and blow their doors off. BUT for those who have spent anytime behind the wheel of the C5 you'll know it truly is a great car.

personal taste is just that personal

If someone wants one car or another that's thier choice, that's what makes the world go around.

Just don't be a complete pest as ask the guy when he's going to get rid of his dream car, and buy someone elses!

My 92 is my vette,my 00 is my driver.I lease my C5 and park it outside,I own my C4 and garage it.Its all personal preference,Hell i'll even take the C5 to a car wash and let my wife drive it to the mall. It's not all that bad my new lease will be in next week, and the day i pick it up you'll still find me in the garage looking at my old C4.

The way I see it the Corvette is a work of art in progress all the time. Every year new technology will become available and Gm will continue to Make the very BEST MASS PRODUCED sports car on the market. Some compremises are made along the way ever year to keep cost down and make it the corvette available to more people, THis is after all Americas Sportscar. Each and evry year has something special about it, and is unique in its own way.

I bet most everyone would love to own a corvette from each generation, that would be cool. But money, personal preference and avalablity are usually what gets us into the specific corvette we drive is mine better than yours and his his better than mine, silly debate. Is vanilla or chocalte ice cream better, either way its ice cream. We choice to drive the same Model car, The only one with a mueseum dedicated to it, and fight, not disagree among ourselves which is "BEST"

Chill out, enjoy the ride, Save the wave, and appreciate your friends choice.

Most of the remarks in that thread seemed to be in good clean fun. And yes the C5 is technically the best Corvette ever. Doesn't mean it's the one we all want to own.

Default Re: C5 vs C4 (Raysur)

The majority of C5 owners bought the car to show their social status. That is why I cannot stand the majority of them. There is a group however that are true Corvette enthusiasts. Those are the ones that won't dump their C5 when the C6 comes out. I feel like saying something in that forum but I don't have to convince the snob owners. Nor can I. Once their lease is up they will be out of our forum. Just have patience with these people. :blueangel:
Raysur, I agree with most of what you say, but let me tell you first hand from a first time 'Vette owner. I've always been a "sportscar" guy, mostly MG's, Triumphs, Jaguars...British stuff (you want to see snobs, join a Jaguar club!) and drove my first Corvette a couple of years ago. It was love at first drive. Yes I did buy a C5, it's what I drove. After years of NO air conditioning, NO power anything, Lucas electrical systems and assorted other British Car gremlins, I made the change. Yes, I bought a new one that was 50K, I'm thankful that I could swing a purchase (notice I said PURCHASE, not lease) like that. I plan on keeping this car for quite awhile.

All I can say is WOW:D Now I understand the Corvette Heritage and having a classic sportscar background can appreciate the whole family of Corvette generations, C1 through C5. I've gone to a bunch of local Corvetteforum get togethers and even made the "Pilgramage" to Bowling Green on Labor Day for the NCM Birthday Bash. I'm hooked :yesnod:

Now, here's the clincher...I hope this won't make to many peoples heads spin, but..... I'm looking for an OLDER generation Vette to restore. Can you beleive it! A C5 owner WANTING a C4 or C3 (maybe older, but too many $$$). I'm narrowing it down to a Chrome bumper C3 or early C4 (would love a Z71, but again $$$)

Just wanted you to realize that not all C5 owners are from the "Wine & Cheese" crowd. Some of us are just "Car Guys" :yesnod:

Peace

Wow I never knew there was this much animosity between generations. :smash: Corvette owners bashing each other's rides is just stupid. I bet the other car owners eat this up. :( With that said, I have never seen this type of ill feeling at any Corvette gathering that I have attended. I have had some great times with C4 & C3 owners. Well except for the C4 I could not keep up with! :smash: :D He sure had a quick car.

Our first Corvette was a C3. We test drove one of the first C4's, as our dealer was one of the largest in the country & allowed us to drive one on his test track before the 'official' unveiling by GM. Both the C3 & C4 have more sport car feel, however, the combination of technology, handling & comfort of the C5 is hard to beat.

We like the C5...some prefer the C4...but that does not make either better or worse than the other. Some people need to lighten up a little & appreciate each other as Corvette lovers!

That is very true.. the C5 is technically the best Corvette ever... I have one...

but the thing that is better about the C4's is that they seem to be more moddable... my buddy has one... and for the same amount of money(5K) ... his C4 is at about 380RWHP... but my C5 would cost much more for that much power...

The best generation for and all rounded car : C5
The best generation for all out power handling capability: C4

I got my '92 at around the time the '98 was coming out. And I noticed that at that time, the only people who really waved were the C4-C1 owners. The C5 people almost acted like they were in another class or something (either that, or many were first timers, and didnt know about the wave). Over the next couple years, it seemed everyone started to wave.. I started feeling like the C5s were "coming into the flock". Then all the sudden, about a year ago, NO ONE was waving, and it has been that way ever since. C'mon everyone.. we gotta keep waving.. :seeya .

But in terms of the C4 vs C5 debate- I really like them both. I would love to have a C5 to drive around, but also love my C4. I think they both have their merrits and their weaknesses, but above all, they are both Vettes!!!

Thanx Truck Guy, I've stayed awy from the bashing.. just love my Vette..I too spent some time in the TR250, TR4, TR6 & TR7 "ranks" keeping those side drafts synched... well that was the fun part (I'm sure you know what I mean)

I remember when the C4 first came out there I am in my TR7, top down roll along side a Vette we wave, we speed up.side by side .. we sped up more until the TR was peddling as fast as she could (had to downshift to accelerate) the TR 7 was crying prettiy hard had about 1 MPH left in her then PHEW there went the Vette... some day I'm gonna get one of those...

I guess once the C6 comes out they will be taking a bashing like the rest of us poor unfortunate pre C5 owners. :jester
And who do you think will be buying the C6s? (The snobby C5 owners of today...)
