Do Cops like Vettes?
Yeah I'm a cop,"Bodycount" get it?
I have a hundred related stories, both as a Vette driver and as a cop.
Got into some trouble at 18 years old in my Uncles white on red '77 Vette.
Did some WFO in my other Uncle's '90 at 25 years old, 148 MPH indicated. I was a cop at the time and luckily was never paced or clocked. I'll probably get some flack over that.
Haven't really opened up my '94 yet, as I have only had it about 3 months and we've had some nasty weather around here.
I'll share this story from a cop's persepective.
Working highway patrol in North Jersey which is insanely congested.
I'm in a stealth car, marked but no overhead lights.
It's warm out, evening rush hour out of NYC into NJ, medium to heavy traffic. I see a Corvette vert ahead & the guy is moving along well through traffic. I catch up and begin to pace him. I can see it's a him as the top is down. He's doing a steady 15-20 mph over and weaving through traffic, not recklessly, just moving along. Traffic clears and he spots me behind him, we're in the left lane, he cuts over to the right lane, I follow, he slows. I decide that as my point was made, I change to the left lane a pass him.
After passing I glance in my rearview mirror and what do I see??
He holds his arm straight up and flips me the bird! Holy ****! If that Crown Vic didn't have anti-lock I would have locked all 4 tires. I let him pass, got behind him again and pulled him over in a nice clear area where we could have a "chat". I really had to restrain myself, but after all this is the NJ/NYC metro area at that kind of stuff is mild compared to what I see regularly.
I really don't remember what his problem was, but he as well as I remained calm. I swear to god, I wrote him a ticket for "Improper hand signal" and gave him a break on the speeding/careless.
When I tell this story to the rookies they usually don't believe me.
More to follow...
Over & out.
