So what would be the best headers for my 85? I want some that i wouldnt have to do modifications and i dont really care about smog stuff (as long as it doesnt mess with the computer), and i would really like long tubes unless yall dont think it will benefit to much.
I had a set of TPIS headers installed in my 85 and I was told by my installer that they went in w/o a hitch. Many times, modifications need to be done to get headers to fit just right. But apparently, TPIS was able to make these fit into an 85 perfectly. The only downfall is their cost. It is very steep. But, if it's not a problem and you want an excellent header, you probably can't beat this one.
If you use the search function, you'll find enough material on headers to choke a horse. Posting that question here just allows us to post goofy little pictures like this...
by the way, I put a set of Hedman's in my '91 in the garage. No major problems, I just had to make my own alternator bracket and find a new home for the oxygen sensor. Good luck... Oh, one more thing, due to heat problems, make sure the headers you end up with are thermal coated!

Ok soanother question if i delete the smog pump and get rid of the emission crap, will it mess with the computer on the 85?
The ECM controls the solenoids for the AIR but it want throw a code if deleted. The AIR only inducts air into the cat at warm up. Once the ECM is closed loop it really doesn't play a role. I've heard/read good things about the hedman elite headers. Around $350+.
Remove and toss the AIR system, no big deal. That wont affect the computer at all.
EGR in 85 is internal, so the only modification required is to patch up the hole in the header pipe thats made for EGR of later years. It'll need to be welded closed.

Actually, those say thermal coated. Because ceramic coated is also listed as a category, I'm guessing this coating isn't as good? Why else would they have a ceramic-coated header with a skimpy 1/4" flange for $200 more!
Would you want to recoat (ceramic, jethot, etc...) this type of header? How do they hold up compared to ceramic or other coatings?
