Hi ..New to this ...got myself a nice 94 coupe last year ...stored it in my garage .. andnow I got a dead battery...had it started last month ...should I have disconnected the battery ???...had to keys in the house ..so the security system was armed ...tell me how I goofed up ...thanks
You should have disconnected the battery, or, even better, hooked it up to a trickle charger (designed to supply a small charge but not overcharge). Of course, all batteries give it up sometime, how old was it?
Your security system puts a slow drain on your battery. If the car just sits and is not started periodically or driven the battery will slowly drain until there is no charge, particularly in colder temperatures. You should consider either connecting a battery tender, starting the car and running it for a minimum of 30 minutes every two weeks, or removing the battery and storing it inside for the winter. You will need to remove the fender panel and pull the battery from the side. I keep my battery in the house while the car is in storage and bring it out and start the car once a month and run it for about 30-45 minutes. This keeps a charge in the battery and is good for the car because it circulates the fluids and lubricates the seals and cleans any condensation out of the exhaust and fuel line. I hope this helps.

I have had good luck with this maintainer from Sears. I had a cheap Black and Decker one last year and had probloms with it this season. I think the one from Sears had a 5 year warranty.
Battery age is a huge factor, but I can start mine once a week and have no problems. If you disconnect the battery, then next time you drive the car, it will run kind of crappy until the computer re-learns. Battery tenders are sweet, I may get one when my battery gets a little older/weaker.
Thanks guys ..I put my battery tender on the car and had it running in 3-4 hrs ...got the car started and ran it for 30 minutes ..well keep the tender on it from now on ....didn't have this problem with my old 72 vette...but I also didn't have lots of things with that hot rod either .!!!
I have the Sears battery tenders on my 89 & 93. When I first got the 93, I used to just start it and let it run for a while during the winter months. It started OK for most of the following summer except when it was time to go home from Carlisle. It was dead as dead can get. I got real good mileage on the way home on the flatbed and I was lucky it was only the battery. Now I keep the tenders on year round.
