Also, those intersection cameras do nothing to catch you speeding. They are for red light runners only.
I'm ok with using cameras to catch people running red lights. However, in Ohio, those cameras will catch you speeding, and mail you a nice little ticket. That is
Red light running came to my next door neighbor's 20 YO son...some numbnut in a souped up rice burner decided to run a light, so he floored his car and T-boned the poor kid as he made the turn on green. Hit him so hard the kid and seat flew out of car, conv., seatbelts ripped out. Needless to say, DOA.
I now count to 5 before I proceed and still almost got clipped by a soccer mom on her cell phone at the same intersection. I trust no intersections now. Best advice, tell your kids not to run yellow lights, firmly.
Sound advice. Just because your light is green doesn't mean there are no vehicles coming. I do this same thing - look before I proceed, even on green.
Sorry about your neighbors son, that's a tragedy. I have no issues with Red Light Cameras or Speed Cameras. If you don't want to get cited - OBEY THE LAW. It's just that simple and it is safer. For all those that hate these devices - it's you that JimmyMack and I have to watch out for.

They just started putting these up in may area at the end of last year. Last week I almost ended up sideways while turning in the middle of an intersection. I thought they had a camera there and I got caught in a yellow after I had already turned. I guess I gave it a bit too much gas to get through. I avoid them whenever possible. I believe these will cause just as many accidents as they will prevent. There is a good article written about the cameras here. Check out the statistics below from my area. If they must exist I'd like to see this money going to pay police or teachers salaries. Unfortunately it will probably just be more money for the politicians. If anyone finds a method for hidding the plate that really works let me know.

I got nailed for $400,failure to come to a complete stop while making a right turn.Get popped once and you learn. Before I put the new plates on my car I made up for it.Somewhere theres a bunch of pictures of a white ZR-1 with some moron throwing the finger at some cameras And the covers over the plates work,I saw one and from any angle you couldnt read the plate.
Can't find the reference, but I remember reading over the last year, the number of accidents increased after a red light camera was installed in an intersection. The increased accident rate was due to people slamming on their brakes at the onset of a yellow light, and getting rear ended. How's that for progress?
In my neck of the woods, 95% of the times I witness, the last car, and often the last two cars, run the red light. Damn near every time.
My wife and I are also the only people I know who stop before making a right on red. I'm sure that I am not the most compliant driver, but sorry guys, all those of you that run the lights deserve the ticket. Or someday JimmyMack's story will hit home.

The Phoenix/Scottsdale area has basically pioneered this scourge to performance driving, now they have the red light cameras here that are also speed cameras as well. I didn't realize this until yesterday morning, I may have gotten flashed. Not for running a red light, I never do that, but I may have exceeded the speed limit through said intersection. The thing I hate is that as a vigorous Corvette driver I always have a guilty conscience :o , if I am going through a photo enforcement intersection and some other doof sets off the cameras and I see the flash I almost always think it was me. Then I sit around for a couple hours replaying the moment in my mind trying to determine if I did it! I don't need the anxiety so now I avoid these intersections even if I have to drive further to work, at least I can have peace of mind. For God's sake if I am going to get a speeding ticket, I want it to be from a human being, not a cash generation machine!!!!!

Reason: shameful spelling.

Dont worry Scottsdale will let you know in about 3.5 weeks via the mail.
The red light cameras are a pain, but they can be avoided. I just make a mental note of what intersections have them, and then I just drive cautiously and make sure not to chase a yellow at those intersections. We don't have speed cameras here in Illinois yet, at least that I know of, but I imagine that would be a whole other issue. That's something I would definitely have a problem with.
One method worked with the speed camera. It was the dragster that blew by the camera at about 230 mph. The camera was unable to get the car in the pic.
