i live in texas so i know the law is different in other states, but im taking my car to get tinted friday and i want to get some limo tint on back hatch window and some dark tint on the side windows. anyone have any problems getting pulled over because tint is to dark?? im just thinking it might attract negative police attention.

In NC the max is 35%. I wanted darker but wasn't wanting an issue with John Law. Texas should have a DMV website that will tell you the max.
If you have a coupe make sure they cut around the washers for the window cylinders! They didn't on mine and it pulled the tint making wrinkles in it next to the fitting. They're fixing it next week if I can get the car up to them.
I had my 92' tinted about 3 weeks ago. 5% sides and hatch and 35% on the whole front window. Yes it is illegal. This is the 4th car I have had done and have never had a problem with J law. Not to say that I couldn't but it looks sweet!

I've had all different tint on my cars - 5,20,35,50 - the 5% makes it hard to see out at night. During the day it's not bad. But it is nice for getting rid of those blinding lights behind you at night, especially with a lot of newer cars with HID's and brighter lights. I am getting the vette done soon, it will be 20% all around. I think it's the best mix of looks and practicality.

I have 35% on all windows as well, including the windshield. Really looks mean and have had it this way for 3 yrs. It gives the illusion that your windows are super dark; the windshield is great and driving at night really isn't an issue.
I live in Michigan and we can only tint the top four (4) inches on the side windows and you can do whatever with the hatch.
With that said, I have limo on the rear and dark on the sides. Never been pulled over for the tint.
I don't have to many pics with the windows up but here are a couple

I have a 92 as well and I have the sides and hatch all tinted in 5%. Every vehicle I own and I have 3 of them has 5% on all the side and rear windows. Been like this for well over 10 years on all my vehicles. Never got pulled over for tinted windows here in Arkansas.
I wanted to get the windows tinted on one of my cars, but was told that I needed a hat on sideways, big baggy pants hanging down around my knees, underwear pulled half way up my chest and some stupid language that no one understands. I was also expected to lean all the way onto the passenger side while driving with some type of music that sounds like a bass drum to everyone with in a 1/4 mile. Needless to say I passed on the idea. Only kidding. You need to check your local laws and anywhere you may drive the car to see if it is legal. Police agencies can enforce the law to have you remove it if it is illegal in their area.

Reason: typo
Tinting a windshield...I would think at night that could be little dangerous. I cant see squat out my rear window at night except headlights. If I was backing up and someone walked behind me there would be a problem. Out here no tint on side windows at all. Truck has them done but they arent real dark at all, no problems yet in 5 yrs. Guessing becuase its a work truck and not all blinged out they leave me alone.
Id bet $$ Id get a ticket for it in the Vette so except for the rear hatch they will remiain untinted.
I have 20% on the sides & 5% on the rear. To me, this is the optimum setup. 5% on the sides is just too dark and makes driving at night dangerous...you're almost forced to roll down your windows when going through a stoplight or making a turn etc.., cuz you can barely see what's coming (cars, pedestrians, whatever). FWIW, I also have a 5-6" strip of 5% across the top of the windshield...virtually eliminates the need for the visors, as you can look directly at the sun through the tint w/ no problem.
Also, these pics are a bit decieving. Since my car is parked in the shade it looks like the rear isn't tinted...but it is @ 5%.
These pics show the rear tint much better:
Bottom line, my recommendation = 20% sides & 5% rear.
And, from a law enforcement perspective, there's not a huge difference between 35% and 20% so you be ok there.

About to get mine redone too in a one piece rear and the sides were never tinted..... Yet

I must have a similar setup to you Jef - the guy I bought it from described it as 'limo tint' but it's only this dark on the rear glass - the sides must be 20% like yours.
I agree - with 'only' this much side tint I sometimes drop the window at night when turning on a junction in darker streets as it's hard to see.
Tint in SoCal is virtually a must for both the sun and privacy
To the OP - generally, if you drive like a dick, you will attract attention - if you are stopped for anything stupid I would expect to be pulled up about tint, exhaust, front plate. Good driving, they will probably leave you alone. Just in case, drop both windows if you're pulled
It is rough. But after years of driving vehicles that way I am used to it. If you are in the city it is no big deal. You really cannot tell when you are in the car that the front is done in 35. Most of my driving is on nice sunny days with the windows down anyway. My accord gets the crap weather...........
I found a website that posted the info below for my state. What is the AS-1 line on the front windshield? 5 inches? Since the Vette only has one set of windows are those considered front at 40%? The last car I had tint on was years ago on my 92 camaro. I had limo all the way around and was never bothered about it. This time I may consider going with the legal tint on the Vette. I'm tired of being blinded by trucks and SUV's at night.
Lousiana Tint Law Enacted: 1993
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN LOUSIANA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Lousiana, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 40% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 25% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 12% of light in.
