I'm curious about people's opinion of Pep Boys service.
Often I hear people say they won't take their cars there for work.
Would you...
Would you take your Vette there?
Would you take your Non-Vette there?
Would you not take anything there?
Do you buy parts there?

Yes, I would not take anything there.
Mainly oil and wax.
I would not even bring my 5 yr old sons bike there. if that does not explain it good enough, go for it. You may have better luck than I did.
:yesnod:
As far as parts, I've had mixed results from them. They do seem to stock lots more stuff than Auto Zone or Advance auto. I recently purchased a coolant temp sensor from them, and had no problems with it. I did have a bad experience - once bought a driveshaft for a Dodge Caravan from them, got it home, and it was a used shaft, complete with old, dirty grease. My guess is that they got in a core and put it back on the shelf, or someone duped them into taking back a used item that should have been new.
As for the shop, I would not let ANYONE work on my Corvette - the only way to know something is done correctly is to do it yourself. If one day my arms are cut off and I had to take a vehicle to someone to have work done on it, it damn sure wouldn't be to Auto Zone! I would even go to a dealer before going there!
ABsolutley dont buy parts there! I was calling for an alternator yesterday. Orileys was 77. Pep boys was 110-- both were with exchange of another. Im staying clear of pep boys. :yesnod:
I shopped at Pepboys for many years and only bought wax and cleaners but heard horror stories about there service work. I was really taken advantage of when they said that I needed a new A/C and that they would only replace the R12 with R 134 . My mistake, they charged me about $1200.00 and blew coolant all over the engine bay and under the hood. I had to make five trips back to them to get it working right. And the topper was it still made the noise that I took it to them to fix. The noise was the belt tensioner. I learned a very hard lesson. IMHO stay away from Pepboys they have no idea what they are doing. I will not set foot in any Pepboys stores.
What they all said.
No service, ever. They had to install 3 compressors on my Montana minivan before it would cool. Then they tried to charge me for all the additional freon they used to get it right. They also caused a leak in a power steering hose trying to get the thing in and out so many times. The techs ( ) are the bottom ofd the barrell. I raised hell in the store and wouldnt leave until they treated mew fairly and compensated me for my inconvence and aggrivation!!! :mad
I would buy some cleaners and simple parts that I would install myself. Stay away!!! :nono:

Damn man, you'd better have them replace the system now too! Putting freon in a R-134a system is not only illegal, it won't let enough oil get to the compressor! That really sucks!
Pep Boys is where I picked up the Rapidfire plugs when the dealer had none. I only purchase some things not all. Oil, filters, coolant..... On a personal note, I hate the way they're starting to "rice" the joint.
I have a mechanic so no need to use the service dept. ;)
