Abreviations!!??

Abreviations!!??
What do they mean...LT, as in LT1/LT4. LS...LS1/LS6. Any of the old "L's" for that matter...L82,L88.Etc. What does it all mean?? :confused:

My guess is the style of the engine, eg. the "L" is a common reference to an OHV pushrod engine, no matter how many cylinders or arrangement. But the V is kind of a more obvious abbreviation. You'd think that it would be a "LV", right?
