Default Engine Detailing

While my alternator is out getting rebuilt and powercoated black (should be back any day now), I decided to paint my A/C compressor, A/C & Alternator bracket, and computer black. I also smoothed and painted my fuel rail covers.

Everything on the car is going to be either black or red with just some aluminum for highlights, like the a/c hoses and hope to get bushed aluminum pulleys at some point.

Looks good, what type of paint did you use on the fuel rail covers?
did you prime them at all?

Yeah, I just noticed it when I posted the photo. I just laid the fuel rail covers on and took a pic at work. Gonna take them off and paint them to match the fuel rail covers. Can't wait to get it all back together so I can actually drive it again.

Wow...that looks great! Did you use a spray and mask off the areas or did you remove the parts and then paint?

A little of both. I removed the computer, ASR cover and of course the fuel rail covers. There was no way I was removing the A/C compressor so I taped off and covered the rest of the engine bay, wheels and car (old sheets work GREAT). I figure it'll work till I actually need to replace the compressor, then I'll have it powder coated black to match my incoming alternator. Next up will be the air cleaner lid and housing. Going to brighten up the aluminum tubing too. But first will just be driving her again. Glad you all like. Going to have to redo the fuel rail covers again though. I freaking dropped one while taking it down after spraying them. Had some issues with the stupid paint too. Which is Duplicolor MetalCast red. Should look more metallic, but I'm just glad they are mostly smooth at this point.

Looks great man.
I like the look of the black A/C compressor, and the alternator will blend nice.

I painted my PCM black a couple of years ago, still looks good...they should've come that way stock.

Hey, that's the photo that put me over the edge to go ahead and powdercoat my alternator black instead of just buying a new one...and to paint my computer black too. Been thinking about if for a while, but that pic put me in gear...so thanks.

You bet man...I may have to try the black A/C & alternator too eventually cuz it does look good...esp on our black cars.

Where did you get those? I totally need to add that to my list. Also just found out my alternator won't be in until Monday. That'll be OVER three weeks to rebuild and powdercoat an alternator...just ridiculous.

Thanks! I got the hoses at http://silhoses.com/ - they're kinda spendy, but they're very good hoses, and I liked the look a lot.

Oh yeah. I used a heavy filler primer. Sprayed quite a few coats, but I had a lot of issues with the final coat and with the filler. I'd say I spent about 12-13 hours filling in the lettering and logo holes, plus sanding and painting.

That's not a bad price at all for all silicone. Maybe I can get those by the end of the summer.
