Is it me, or do any of you other guys wonder why at red lights, cars seem to be right on your back bumper? I pull up about 5 feet and the car behind me wants to pull up 6 feet. Is it the cut of the backend of the C4 that makes it feel like the car behind you is so close, or are there that many idiots out there that are trying to make you nervous or trying to get you to jump?

nope, your not alone, but I never noticed this until a day ago when i pulled up behind my vette in the truck and realized I could see straight down through the hatch and all the interior, and then it hit me, thats why people keep creepin and inchin up on me at lights. I think they might just be checkin out the digi-dashes and cool cockpits, they are pretty damn cool. then again theres the guy that just IS an A** and knows exactly what he doin to tick ya off.
I messed with a couple by ever so slightly slippin the clutch and rollin back real slow and watchin them freak because they think there car is rollin when they have the brakes on they grab the dash, throw it in park
they mess w/ya, you gotta mess w/them a little too!!
Most are Mustang and Porsche owners trying to get a closer look... Seriously I think you are just more aware of people around you Corvette and are over protective . I sense the same problem but rarely look in my mirror how close people are behind me in my crappy old Buick or Geo. Im sure they are just as close but I don't notice.
I know at night, it always seems like people pull up and shine their hi-beams in my mirror, of course it is really just that the vette sits so low. Sometimes I reach up and flip the mirror to the night setting and I have actually had people shut their lights off after I do that. So I don't blame them that my car sits so low. I think the other thing is that the back of the car is very close to the end of the back window, there is not much beyond that, so I think that makes people seem closer than they are. Factor that in with the jealous a-hole factor and seems like there is always someone on our ***...............
if you have a manual, you will want to get out of the car and stab faces
Thats why I make sure to roll back a little before taking off in my Focus. It works everytime as they freak out. I wouldnt do it in the vette though just in case.
I have noticed this as of late, especially during rush hour traffic,,,everyone is anxious to get where they need to be, while drinking thier coffee, talking on thier cells, etc..A lot of times, when I have to stop at a light, out of habit I check my rear view mirrors, and see someone slam on thier brakes to avoid rearending me, as they weren't paying attention in the first place. Then they stay right on my butt, acting all pissy cause they made a fool out of themselves!
Objects in the rearview mirror are further away than they appear.
One day I got sick of a person who appeared to be right up my butt. I stuck my head out the window and looked to find the car was about 5-7 feet away, not as close as I had thought.
Sometimes it just seems like they are closer because the rearends of these cars are so short. The view in the mirror makes them look real close.
This is a fact. When I back into a stall/parking spot I get out only to find 6 feet are still left for me to back up. When I nose into the same spot I seem to kiss whatever is in front of me. I usually wind up with flowers stuck on the license plate.

My DD is a 1 ton extended van.
My toy is a 86 vert. The first night that I drove around town with the top down........it amazed me as to how close people would be to the back of the car. I was starting to get a little unnerved about it.
After a few stops at traffic lights.....it finally hit me that they probably weren't any closer than when I am in my van. The next afternoon, I had my wife pull her car up behind my van like we were at a stop light. Went to the back and saw the distance. Had her do the same thing behind the vette. Looked like she was trying to bury the car in the back of the vette. Went back to look...........wasn't any closer to the vette than she was to the van.
Sure.......some azzhats get extra close.......but for the most part, I think it just looks that way.

If you get out and look, you'll probably find they really aren't that close. Obviously don't try that in traffic, but you could try backing up to a car in a parking lot until it looks like they are "riding you". Then get out and you'll see it's not really that close.
This used to drive me nuts but I realized that cars do it when I'm in my 94 tempo also. I just dont pay attention in the Tempo. Drive another car and pay attention at lights as if you had the vette. I think you will see the same.
How about a bag full of glass marbles. Then throw a handful in the air as you leave the stop light? Always wanted to do that, but thot about using ball bearings.
Or how about the diesel truck that zooms around you, then backs off and covers you and your vert in a black cloud of fumes and soot?
