hi all has anyone replaced there antenna mast mine got broken off
I have the new mast and plastic strip to replace it.
Can you get to the antenna from inside the car or do you have
to go from under the car?
Anyone with pictures if you could post them it would be great
Any help will be greatly appreciate.
Thanks
Clayton
You need the socket to remove the retainer nut if you are doing just the mast and not the unit. My mast came with one. Then have someone turn the radio on and it will shoot right up. Gently pull the antenna out you will see how the plastic gear strip is oriented. Slide new one in (make sure it has the outer stop fitted at the bottom of the mast) it may take a few trys to get the gear and gear strip to align but when you do you can tell. Once you have it threaded have someone turn off the radio and guide the antenna in. Replace retainer nut. Done
It took a couple of days for mine to go all the way down but you can push it down by hand. Mine needed to wear in a little I suspect I bent it a little.
Mine just broke on my '91 about a month ago. It turned out that the 'tail' had broken inside the drum so I had to remove the entire unit. It was much easier than I expected...I removed the L/R tire, pulled out the inner fenderwell and it was out in ten minutes.
