Sputtering in engine bay
I just changed the IAC motor and the engine sounds and runs near perfect now, but there's still a wierd *** sputtering sound coming from the engine bay(it was there before I changed the IAC and cleaned out the TB). Sounded like a belt maybe, so I put some belt conditioner on it, but its still there. Almost sounds like either a fan creeking subtly or a part near the alternator? Sounds like somethings subtly hitting a pinwheel when the engine runs....dunno how else to describe it. I checked and dont see anything loose getting caught in any moving parts. Any guesses? BTW... it's a '90
I found that a mechanic's stethoscope (cheep) really comes in handy when trying to isolate the source of various sounds emanating from under the hood. Just place the tip of the "feeler" near the bearings of the various gizmos (alternator, belt tensioner, etc) and if it is a bearing, for example, there'll be no mistaking it.
Take the belt off and start the engine. Make sure the belt is out of the way of the crank pulley. If the noise is still there, then you've eliminated the belt driven accessories.

This would rule out any bearing issues with the A/C or alternator. My alternator made a horrific noise when the bearings went out...made a funny noise leading up to that but I don't remember what it sounded like. Good luck.
