I have a 1993 vette and when i go to start it, it take around 8 to 12 seconds before it finally starts up it cranks just doesnt fire up. every once and a while after a short stop maybe at the store, when i go back out it starts right back up like it should. any ideas on what the problem might be.
Taylor Truelove.
im thinking plugs but i maybe wrong i just dont wanna have to change them if they dont need to be due to how hard they are to reach and living in an apt doesnt make it to easy?
You may have leaky injector/s causing a rich condition and hard starts. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on the end of the fuel rail, it should be about 40 psi. Turn off the ign when you get pressure and watch how long it takes to lose pressure. It should take 30 or more minutes, if pressure drops rapidly, you likely have leaky injector/s .
I have a 93 that won't start and I am going to get a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow. I think my fuel pump is dead.
However, from digging in the factory manual, you might check your fuel pump relay under the dash passenger side. The factory manual says if the fuel pump relay is working, then the fuel pump should come on and put up full fuel pressure right after turning the ignition key. If the fuel pump relay is not working, then the other way the fuel pump can kick on and supply fuel pressure is by having adequate oil pressure which is provided by a extended cranking cycle. Factory manual says failed fuel pump relay might be the reason for hard starting.
i will check into that though i can hear the fuel pump kick on before i start the car at all usually when i hear it turn off thats when i start it just an old habit. sometimes you can kinda smell a little extra fuel burn from the exhaust after it cranks on so im not to sure its the fuel pump
