Default starting problem?

I have a 1993 vette and when i go to start it, it take around 8 to 12 seconds before it finally starts up it cranks just doesnt fire up. every once and a while after a short stop maybe at the store, when i go back out it starts right back up like it should. any ideas on what the problem might be.

For me, that was the first sign that my fuel pump was going out. So it gave me a good month's warning. Put a FP gauge on it.

You may have leaky injector/s causing a rich condition and hard starts. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on the end of the fuel rail, it should be about 40 psi. Turn off the ign when you get pressure and watch how long it takes to lose pressure. It should take 30 or more minutes, if pressure drops rapidly, you likely have leaky injector/s .

Default 93 wont start

I have a 93 that won't start and I am going to get a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow. I think my fuel pump is dead.
However, from digging in the factory manual, you might check your fuel pump relay under the dash passenger side. The factory manual says if the fuel pump relay is working, then the fuel pump should come on and put up full fuel pressure right after turning the ignition key. If the fuel pump relay is not working, then the other way the fuel pump can kick on and supply fuel pressure is by having adequate oil pressure which is provided by a extended cranking cycle. Factory manual says failed fuel pump relay might be the reason for hard starting.
