Default '94 electrical problem

Newbie,

Thanks for putting me in the right forum!!!!

Now that I am in the right forum, does anyone have an idea why the lighted radio/clock and temp light often remains on after I turn off the car. Somtimes they will turn off when I open the door. (rarely)

Mechanics have been unable to trace the problem.

Also, would these lights cause such a great drain that I would have to charge it or boost in order to start?

Thanks again,

Paul

That was the first thing I think he checked.
When I checked it - pushed it in and out a few time and it didn't do any good.

Ive got a similar problem. My radio use to shut off as soon as I'd opened the door to get out, now it stays on, so I manually turn it off. When I do that the radio/clock light stays on, but its always off when I go back later. Is guess thats a door switch problem?

That would be my first thought also.

But let me add that there is also a circuit called “delayed bus”. What this does is when you turn the key off and sitting the car, the windows and radio and other functions work till you open the door. It’s a convenience thing. The CCM controls this function thru the delay bus relay. The door switches, CCM and relay are the major players plus a bit more. This is the area that needs to be investigated if the simple solution like the door switches are not bad or sticking.

Your mechanics would actually have to have the factory books for the car and be familiar with what is involved in the operation of these circuits. Not rocket science, but with out pre–knowledge, your in the dark.

Thanks,
That sounds reasonable. (I guess, since I am mechanically deficient)
I will give the mechanic this information.
I can understand the convenience thing.

The question is, would the light staying on for a period of time (unknown) cause such a drain on the battery. (Even if were for several hours or a couple of days.)

I don’t any specific test info on leaving the radio and temp light on in regard to how long it would take to drain the battery. If the radio is off but display on, I think the drain would be relatively low since it is just led display and perhaps some small solid state circuitry. But don’t know how low in this case really is. Might go 2 days?

Let me also add if the dome light and door lights are left on, that is a much larger drain and will definitely kill the battery in about 8 hours.

Ask me how I know.

I am going to put a new battery in and hope it solves the problem termporarily until I can get everyhting checked our - as suggested.
It only took me eight days to get the panel off. Just kidding. But what a bad design - especially the bottom bolt in between the rocker panel and the side panel. Lotta swearing went on. I think I heard someone swear a tad. At 71 - not too nimble anymore!

Thanks again - you have been of great help!
