Just recently my A/C has began to blow at both the feet and at out of the dash vents at the same time. And this is with the max A/C buttom on. With black interior thats not a good combination in Houston heat. I read on another topic that someone changed out the HVAC controller box where theres a vacuum and their problem was fixed. Just curiuos if I'm needing the same remedy. Any information is greatly appreciated.
when you find out let me know, mine has a mind of its own,
it starts out coming out of dash ,and if it wants to will eventualy come thru the front vents..theres a valve somewhere in the back of the engine that ive heard can be replaced and solve the problem ..i havent found it yet..
However if it is a 92-96 vintage you could look at the three hose check valve under the right side plastic fuel rail cover. They usually crack or fall apart causing insufficient vacuum to operate the vents properly.

If you complete your profile, we could tell what year your vette is.
A 1996 has controller/programmer problems not like other C-4's.
That being said, I pulled the seat, pulled the programmer/controller and trimmed the nipples and the same above condictions continued. What worked is I evacuated the system and did a complete refill and presto.... ice cold air. (six hours later)
I have a 94 vette. A few weeks ago my cruise control stop working and went I turned on my air conditioner air would only come through the bottom vents and not the dash vent. I posted a thread and explained my problem. One of the guys told me what was causing the problem and now I have my cruise back and air is coming through the dash vents.
The problem was a broken cruise check valve located under the fuel rail on the passenger side. It has one inlet port and two outlet ports. I got a new one from the local Chevrolet dealership parts department. The cost was $1.60 plus tax.
Try replacing it and see if that will solve your problem.

Most of the above comments are true, As far as they go. If the air conditioner is blowing from the heater vent and the defroster and air flow will not change to the vent or, It changes very slowly. It's most likely the connector at the Vaccuum controller which is located above the gas pedal. the connector has soft rubber tips that over time colapse under vaccumm. You will need to replace or modify the connector.
Also, Check to see if your cruise control works. If it doesn't, It's probably the check valve under the passenger side engine cover. This is because It's the same vaccumm line to the Vaccumm controller.
My cruise control works excellent. I'm thinking its the controller under the gas pedel. I know one member found the connector that came with hard plastic connection instead of the factory soft ends. He had a picture of the new unit, but it was one he got off ebay. Not sure if it had a part number.

Although your cruse control works OK it is not the sole indicator that the check valve is not bad. The cruse can work, the vents be a problem and the valve be bad.
Check the $5 easy items first before you go off on a tangent and work on the controller which is a 10 more complicated repair than replacing the check valve which takes a minute.
Trust me I'm taking notes on everything you guys say in this forum. I'm the type of guy who gets tired of f*cking with the issue very quickly on making the fix and just sends it to the dealership and not worry about a thing and say screw the cost. But w/ all this tech help from everyone experiences I believe I can say f*ck the dealership this time and fix it myself. This checkvlave you guys are talking about, where is IT located at.

Had this same problem a couple of years ago...the vacuum hose underneath the passenger side fuel rail cover had simply become disconnected. It's easy to accidentally pull off when removing your covers.
So I guess I need to check the checkvalve first and if that solves my issues. If not them it has to be the HVAC controller by the gas pedal. Stroke03 where do you find this vacuum tank at. Have'nt heard of this.
By the way how do I get my vette as the avatar picture.
If you upload a pic of it into the members gallery you can right click the thumbnail and copy the url of it and paste it the spot where the avatar is in the user cp/ edit avatar. It takes a day or so to get the upload aproved.
