Whers that valve ??????

# 2.. last night while driven home my gurl overheated..
appears to be leaking water from the radiator beside the driver side top hose. figure i blew out the radiator, my car is a 96 with round 135,000 mi.will I be doing a no no trying to use some type of sealant

If you're talking about a sealant you add to the cooling system......I wouldn't! Radiators for these cars aren't that expensive. It's a Saturday job, replace it!

Can't help you with the vent issue very much. Although I remember reading something about a diaphragm under the dash on the '96's that goes bad on them. It controls the vacuum that works the vents. Good Luck!

Nice wheels!!!!

Don't cut corners on the radiator issue, it could end up costing you an engine. You should find the one way vacuum check valve for the A/C under the right side fuel rail cover.

I even hesitate to say this, I completely agree with replacing the radiator depending on it age. The original GM I removed from mine was ¾ thick and replaced it with a GM which was 1 5/8 inch thick. The cooling was definitely better.

But if the plastic tank on the side is cracked, they can be replaced. So if you like the way it was cooling , it could be an alternate solution if money is an issue.

Also, should you decide to replace the radiator it would be a good time to flush out the system. (I haven't tried this on mine but I've heard it works really well with no ill effects). Drain the system and get a bottle of CLR put it in and run it for about a day. This will get a lot of the scale out of the system especially in the heater core without it settling in a new radiator.

Default Valve = Common problem...

The valve is that little plastic thingy under the passenger side fuel rail cover with vacuum lines attached to it...Ya can't miss it! It gets brittle w/ age, and if one of the spigots is cracked or broken, that will be your problem (or one of them).

Take the valve to the dealer, show it to the parts guy. Chances are he'll just grunt and go get the replacement w/o even looking it up. It was about as cheap a repair part as I ever bought for my Vettes.

Of course, there are other things it could be, but I'd start there first.

As far as the radiator goes just replace it ,its not worth trying to fix, you can get stock replacements to cheap. Thepartsladi on ebay sells stock replacements for $115.00 plus $15.00 shipping and there great if you want to stay stock. Got one myself about 6 months ago and cleaned out the junk from infront of the radiator and now my vette is cool again.. WW
