has anyone painted there wheels using spray cans ? if so can you share the process.
what type of paint do you use ?

I cant remember who it was, but someone got bored and painted there rims black using spray paint one night. I also know that some have painted them via pro painter, so here is a bump for others to see the thread

I did my friends stock GTO rims.
Acetone (spelling?)
Brillo pad
Duplicolor Ceramic gloss black
Duplicolor Clear coat
4 coats of gloss
2 coats of clear
This is the finished product! No close ups... sorry...

Not a great pic, but I painted a set of sawblades for my DRs. I scuffed them with a scotchbrite pad and hit with rattle can primer and a couple of coats of gloss black. They actually look pretty decent and have held up well, but they only go on the car when I'm headed to the track so they haven't seen a ton of miles.

i sprayed the wheels on my 85 ss monte when i had it.
washed them down with a brillo pad.
taped off parts the parts supposed to be black.
sprayed them with about 4 coats of ACE HARDWARE RUST PREVENTION Paint. It was a silver, almost chrome color.
I was extremely skeptical and figured they would look horrible.
but they actually came about AMAZING . And held up for as long as i had the car.

I painted a set of sawblades last summer. It's easy.
1st thing I did was wash them front and back.
Used paint-stripper to get off the old, flakey clear-coat.
Polished the outer rim with "Mothers".
Masked off the outer rim and sanded the area getting black.
I sprayed with a gun, using DuPont acrylic enamel, but a quality spray can will give you good results, too.
After spraying the black, I peeled off the masking, let them sit over night and then shot the whole front of the wheel with clear so there was no edge exposed.
Total cost was about $40.00.
They turned out pretty nice, considering how rough they looked when I 1st got them.

I prefer powder coating, it is relatively inexpensive and very durable. Take the tires off, have the rims bead blasted, clean they with soap and water, and pick the color you want them coated, including clear.

Mine are painted by a professional. I took the wheels to a shop and htye painted them for me. I wouldn't use spray paint, but it is just me. Get a professional to do it for you if you can, keep in mind that the wheels are gonna get really hot and the paint may come off if the job is not done right.

My aftermarket chrome Azev rims were flaking after only 4 years of use, so I had them repaired by the Wheel Collision Center in PA. I had them stripped the finish, repair any road rash and out of round problems, then repaint with a nice silver color. Couldn't be happier with the results. It's been a few years and they still look good, but if they do go bad, I'm going to have them powdercoated.
