Anyone that compares the C4 to a Mustang 2 is crazy those 1974-78Mustangs were turds on wheels, 2 barrel carbs with 130 hp. and they
rusted fast. Pure Junk.. 0-60 10 seconds flat... hahahha
A C4 is a world class auto. It can smoke the 308 Ferrari and Porsche 928. And the 0-60 times of under 5 secs make it a real screamer.
LONG LIVE THE C4
the c4s are refined enough to handle well but you still know you're in charge of a fire-breathing metal machine, not sitting around in a living room. you feel the road through the steering wheel, you hear the engine roaring, you feel the tires slip or grip. some of the same reasons i prefer the 90s chevy trucks to the newer ones. it seems like all newer vehicles want you to forget you're driving. too much sound deadening, no road feel, and the computer does most of the work. the c5 and c6 are awesome cars, but they they feel more like a video game than real driving to me. plus, i don't like the huge butts.
i think i know how they designed the c5 front end. they brought a 91-96 c4 into a room and blasted it with a flame thrower, liked the way the front end looked melted, then made that the c5 look.
Have beenbuying Vettes since the late 60's. I was just a kid and many of those cars got no respect then but I had a ball with almost everyone! If you want instant status it will cost and then tomorrow it will be something different! Whatever the generation enjoy the ride or buy a different one!!!
Haha. Everyone loves the C4? Youve obviously never ventured into Off-Topic
Personally, I think its the perfect blend of classic styling and modern technology. It has the best lines of any Vette save the C3, and the chassis is so much better that it makes up for it.
Also, the fact that theyre VERY affordable is a plus.
True, true. And I still don't know why those guys / gals hate the C4.
First off, they look better than 99% of all the cars in the 80s and 90s. You can take out a lot of weight from them, especially the early ones. Easier to go faster after you take off all that weight. Second, they are easier to work on than most modern cars, L98s that is. Third, they are the easiest to convert to a screaming carbed race car. Ask me how I know; it cost about $800 if you DIY and follow any carb car manual. Any traditional small block can replace the engine in the event that it goes. So you pretty much have a lot of aftermarket support, motor and transmission-wise. The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that they have such a crummy wiring harness which cancels the benefit of EFI. I don't like how my car originally had so many electrical problems, but all is well since all that trash is gone.

Hmm, you are correct, I never tought of that. You can not install a small block chevy in a C5-6-?....Can you? It has to be a LSx correct?

I wouldn't dare install a SBC in a C5/6. With all the luck I had with carbs as my new obsession, I'd consider getting an LSx style carb conversion kit. Carbs are nothing but air/fuel/spark at the right time. Most LSx motors, according to the scanner seem to like much lower spark timing than traditional SBCs. All you need now is to supply air and fuel at the right mixture which is done by the carb. I know a nicely built tuned LS1 prefers total timing to be in the 22-24 degree range past 2400 rpms. Above that, it will ping. On the other hand, most SBCs like spark timing up to 42 degrees past 2500 rpms.

I'm a powerblock/horsepower tv freak. They showed a LSx conversion to carb and distributor, looked intimidating. Imagging that with a blower and two carbs on top....
I love my red 87 It is fast, fun and cool looking.
When I was looking at getting my Vette, these were the best values period. The 87-91 C4 . Affordable and parts are generally available. That makes them good rolling projects.
the 68 to 73 C 3 were out of my price range. I didnt like the 74 to 79 vettes much. The C5 were totally to pricey. So the C4 is a great car.
I probably will keep mine for some time.
Chalk me up to loving them. The C4 was the car to own at one time.
Btw. the poster who said he couldnt see driving a 30K car. Well, when my car was new, it was a 30K car
