I have a '03 Yukon Denali with a car trailor. I learned that the towing fee's were getting expensive so I started to tow my own car! hehe
I had a problem with my hood release as well. I didn't know what to do so I took it to a body shop and we had to take almost everything apart to get the hood opened.

What isn't a must have at some point ? Everything from cable operated hose clamp pliers to a deep E4 torx bit is a must have sooner or later. I would suggest you start buying tools now as no matter what old car you have you will need them. A few personal favorites of mine are my Snap On 1/2 Cordless impact, 70,000 btu torpedo heater, precison instruments split beam torque wrench, flexhead gear wrenches and Snap On screwdrivers. A helicoil kit is a wonderful thing too when you need one it really is a must have.
Start with the basic sets and then just dig into your projects & find out as you go. I haven't been able to do anything without making an extra run or two to the store anyway.
I manage to buy something about every week or so just building up my inventory. I'm in need of a good standing tool chest now to keep them in if anyone has one or knows where one is for sale.
I bought a retractable safety trouble light this past weekend. It has already come in very handy. Also, a bench vise is a must have.
