I recently purchased an '84 C4 and the only thing it needed was a new hood. I joined this forum and and one of the members (GUIST) so kindly gave me a tip on one in Illinois. I purchased the hood and had my body shop paint it black for me. I got the hood back on July 3rd and it was gorgeous! I had never seen a finer piece of work. Well, all that changed yesterday. I drove my car to work and someone parked their truck on the front of my car. Apparently the guy left his truck running while he went into the building and it slipped into gear or something. It was devastating! They literally had to bounce my car up and down to get it dislodged from under the guy's truck. Talk about sickening!!
I have a "SPOT" where I park my car each day. It is uphill away from all other cars. One other Corvette (a C5) parks right in front. There is only room for both of us. The downside is my Boss knows that it is "MY SPOT" and monitors my comings and goings very easily. I've seen people back onto the hood of another C5, that's why I avoid the general parking area.
Man, I just had a similar experience. Last Thursday I was at a watering hole near my summer place, and some chick in a pickup backed into my car. Thank God for the alarm w/ motion detector, other wise she would not have stopped. Damaged the rear bumper cover to the tune of $1000.00. At least she admitted fault.
Man I can't even think how I would have reacted. Don't think I would be able to keep my cool. Always park as far away from everyone as possible and never take my eyes off of the vette. Hope you get it all fixed up and back on the road. Good luck.
and people call us arrogant azzholes for parking far from everyone else & checking on our cars often.....this is a prime example of why we do. Sorry to hear about the disaster....good luck in getting her fixed just the way it was.
Sorry to say but parking your car away from others is like painting a target on it.
I've never had a problem doing it. I parked in a Wal-Mart the other day among the masses in the wifes BMW & saw a new ding in the rear 1/4 panel. I went in to do some banking for like 5 minutes.
I wish it had only damaged the hood. The guy had no insurance and the police would not respond to my workplace because they said it was private property. What a crock! That's what you get living in a hick town I guess. At least I had several witnesses. It's funny in a way because the guy's truck was stuck on my car so there was no chance of him driving away. He says he will pay my deductible. We'll see!
when im leaving the parking spot im super careful....
and i think im extra careful because i stop way farther than the vette would touch...i've noticed this because i watched the "real picture" while i was watching myself leaving the park looking to a store glass and there is always a lot more room to move back or to the front than what i really think it is ,so there is zero chances of ME backing or hitting someone's car
any of you feel the same ? do i make sense ? (sorry about my english)
BUT OTHER DRIVERS DON'T ! ...THEY ALWAYS MOVE WITH NO CARE AND HIT YOU ! that's why im 90% of the time there, watching !
Sorry to say but parking your car away from others is like painting a target on it.
I feel your pain. In the plaza where I work. Between the vette and the 91 T/A I had before it, I've had 8 incidences. I park it at the very end of the lot in it's own space. 3 have been vandalism and 5 have been hits attributed to Zombie brained drivers that have no clue of how to drive and think dept perception is how deep the pool is. Of all the incidences, I only saw who did the damage once. I've decided to get a beater for work and keep the vette where it belongs during the week- at home in the garage.
