So, my dad and i finally got our newer project 84 together the other day, now that its together, we fixed the coolant problem...but now it idles to high....and after a few min will slow down for the most part. On top of this..it stalls immediately after putting it in gear. Some people said they would check vacuum lines, when looking, there is a canister and a Ball in the front on the drivers side. The canister is all hooked up, but the ball has a hose coming out but does not hook to anything. What does the ball run? Sorry for the lengthy post.
Thanks, Devin
Even though the check engine is not on there may be a code that was logged. So it won't hurt to check for a code.
When you first start the car "cold" it will run a high idle for a few min's then come down once it's warmed up. If the idle stays high or rough you could have worn TB shafts.
It could be a few things that make it stall out. Anything from spark to fuel. But check all the basics first before just going out and replacing parts.
Couple of sites for you to check out www.crossfireinjection.net www.crossfire.homeip.net
Just take your time with it and do your research. A FSM for that car would help you out quite a bit.
check ALL vacuum hoses. There is a vacuum valve near the driverside headlight, it controls the venting of the vapor canister next to it. Mine was broken and leaking as was the hoses connecting it to the canister and to the eng. When the engine was running you could hear it hissing, also check EGR valve and, hoses. Then make sure ALL of the intake bolts are tight. After I did all that my TBI's were also leaking at the shafts. So for now I have a Edelbrock carb and intake on it until I get the TBI's rebuilt. Only problem now is that it runs sooo good. but that is another TOPIC
