well during a cruise thru the back roads of Southern Indiana with about 13 others off of our forum here I learned that my 93 likes to kick out to the right a whole lot more then to the left in fast sharp turns. and that for all the bitchin' and moanin the C4 has taken for poor handling on the rough stuff she handled herself pretty well during a very high speed run and even with it shakin' and rattlin' like a frieght train it held it's line and when it went airborn at 131 MPH it didn't miss a beat even if my heart did . I was even fortunate ( :D :yesnod: ) enough to repeat the flying 93 C4 trick again on a 2 lane while passing BLT 71 (his wife played it pretty cool she was just like "hey he's air borne")and the Dowell this time at 130 MPH. so I have learned two things
1. the C4 is much more stable on rough roads at high speed then I thought it would be and
2. 130 seems to be the magic number to launch my car with a little help from a crest in the road.
the whole flying vette thing is not some thing I would recomend as the kick sideways when it lands because it tached out while in the air and breaks the rears loose for a second is both exilirating (sp?) and frightening. I know I should not drive that fast so save it I hear that at home all the time just sharing some of my experiances from my fellow forum friends and some new insight into my Vette. they took some pics of our trip and posted them in the great lakes section :seeya
I wonder what the 'best' thing to do while airborne is. I guess streer the wheels in the direction of travel, and maybe push the clutch in, or drop it in neutral?
I topped a hill to fast and got mine slightly airborne. I don't think I got all 4 tires off the ground, but it's an interesting experience. I just let off the gas and hoped it would pick a straight line when it landed. I wouldn't recommend it, it can't be good on the suspension.
Well 747's take off at around 120mph......so at that speed...a car's natural tendancy to become airborne is EXTREMELY prevelant.True the vette is made to suck down...and the 747 is made to lift...but lift the vette's at these speeds...NOT GOOD.
So this pic was taken at 130MPH?
:smash: :smash: :smash:
But i'm curious...didn't they put 3rd brake lights on export vettes?
I have no idea on the 3rd brake light, nor do I have a clue as to what the car truly is. It also doesn't have the rear red foglights in the trim molding, or the euro mirrors. Otherwise it appears to be a euro.
Aqua: Are you ready to go again? :D
We're usually a little rowdier on our road cruises, but it's hard to get too out of hand with a group of 14.
Throw in the loose gravel and ice patches....
We had some major HP in this group. Two Lingenfelter cars and a Vette Doctors car... Woo Hoo :D
cYa on the next run!!
Had the Vette airborne 1 time I was doing about 80 and came over a little rise, they DO NOT like it. The wife was with me and needless to say she wasn't very happy.
Save ; I am always up for a good drive :yesnod: it was pretty rowdy in the back (well at least I was a little rowdy) ;) please plan another one of these as soon as spring arrives. I would have never guessed there would be such good roads in indiana. and you two should be trackers with as well as you know those roads. from tight switchbacks to high speed sweepers lots of fun. even with the gravel and ice!
Danger ; I am very glad my wife wasn't there or it would have been a very sedate cruise for me :(
Scorp ; I was worried about the same thing but all looks good. I was most suprised that I didn't loose any of my Euro Lenses since they just sit in there nothing holding them but pressure and with a little flex they pop right out. there was not even a new scrape on the exaust pipes. I think I actually landed softer because I was going so fast that the momentum carried me forward so I didn't just drop.
