I think so. One screw in particular is upside down and impossible to get a tool on the head of it. I had to put needle nose vice grips on the threaded tip of it and turn it by that. I did a mod to flip it over the correct way.
Actually, there is another approach. I wanted to get rid of my breadbox and replace it with a flat burlwood panel. If you take off the plastic side panel that surrounds the fusebox, you can get in there with a big pair if dikes and cut the braces that hold it on. I think that I read an entry from another forum member who got it off simply by popping the braces loose with a monster screwdriver. Having been through the job myself, I think that he might be right. Either way, it's a little bit of a PITA job, but not too bad, and lot easier than taking half your dash apart. (Certainly better that paying a dealership a lot of $$ to do it.)
It's well worth it though. The breadbox is obnoxious; you'll really like the results of getting a flat panel. Check out Kool88vette and see what a flat wood panel looks like.
You need to stand on your head and move the ECM and other stuff under the dash.
Not for a breadbox you don't. Ignore the red circle. The green circle is the upside down screw that is impossible to reach. It's shown modded correctly in pic. I added an access hole on the side, and flipped it the way it should have been.
