Does anyone know how to check the codes on a 93 without going to a garage? About once a week it takes 6-20 times to start my car, all the other times are turn key and go. Any ideas? Thanks
The first link below shows the paper clip method of code retrieval, the second lists the ECM codes for a 93, however without a Factory Service Manual diagnosis is still guesswork. Codes only indicate a problem in a particular circuit not that a component is bad, the FSM provides the step by step troubleshooting procedure necessary to isolate the root cause.
You don't provide enough information on your starting problem to suggest a probable cause. Does the starter crank the engine and it fails to start or does the starter fail to engage?
Many such problems will not set a code and require basic automobile tools and diagnostic procedures such as checking fuel pressure, verifying spark to the plugs ect. Hope that helps, good luck.
Thank-you for the links. The starter cranks and the engine begins to run then just quits, almost like there is no fuel. Then 8 or so trys later it starts perfect.

Sounds like a fuel pressure problem which will not likely set a code, check pressure if you have a gauge, should be about 40 psi cranking and should hold after the key is shut off. If you don't have a gauge you can still inspect the vacuum line to the regulator on the fuel rail, if there is gas in the vacuum line the diaphragm is bad. If the filter hasn't been replaced recently it might be worth trying too.
