Probably why you only worked there for three days. They caught you using packages to prop up trucks.

I am the other way around. Seems like everytime I use Fed Ex, they always try to leave a slip at my door for me to either come pick up the package or sign the slip and I get it the next day. Well, I have to work for a living and am never home when they deliever in my neighborhood. It's frustrating knowing my package is in town, but I have to wait another 24 hours to get it.

Never had that problem with UPS Does fed ex always require someone to sign-so your screwed and have to wait an extra day when the delivery guy shows up at your house when no one is home.

I remember my mother's 100+ year old nativity set, well packed, shipped UPS, marked fragile on every side, and absolutely crushed to bits when it arrived. She didn't know how to determine a value, and doesn't like a fight, so UPS never heard about it from her. It was so broken, it's hard to believe it was just rough handling, and not intentional by some schmuck. My mom doesn't cry at the drop of a hat, and this put tears in her eyes.

On the other hand, I have the same problem as another poster with Fedex not leaving anything but the note on the door, then I have to drive across town to pick it up, that gets old. And I don't exactly live in a bad neighborhood where theft is likely an issue.

I had an issue with a top I bought and came damaged shipped via FedEx. I had to call numerous times and send them pics of all the damage. Do NOT accept no as an answer. Keep bugging them until they give in. It will take a while but don't give up. UPS will hope you just give up.

I will NEVER ship or buy a top again. WHAT A PAIN IN THE ****!!!!

I bought 2 different ones on ebay a few years ago, both came damaged, one Fedex and one UPS. I got my money back, because the seller had to file the claim, but I said never again, and bought one locally. Otherwise, never a problem with either shipper.

Default How do they do it???

A few years back I got a Mustang axle shaft that looked more like a boomarang! You couldn't bend one like that if you backed the truck over it! The driver said "maybe somebody closed the rear door on it". It was a new axle in a manufactures box so they made it right. It must have been a dare to see if anybody could bend it, but how; that will remain a mystery.

Default shipping

I ship 40+ items a day and recieve up to 60 a day. its the nature of the item being shipped. Always insure it for more than the value. Both will pay if they think it wasnt packaged poorly. We use UPs, Fedex & DHL. Good luck i hope you get paid. We dont have a problem more than likely because of the volume we do.

Even got the UPS people to sign my shipping papers indicating that it was received damaged. Anyways, to make a long story short, despite all of this UPS initially declined my claim (thru the shipper). I yelled blue bloody murder (in a nice but firm manner) - it WAS insured afterall & packaged properly -and I worked with the shipper to get the claim elevated to a higher level. This time they approved the claim and I got my cheque (which I spent at the bodyshop to fix it). It all worked out in the end, but it was a huge hassle! I ended up speaking to a Regional Rep for UPS and he told me that they routinely deny ALL freight claims (this is apparently industry standard for everyone) because if you go away, they don't have to pay. If you squack and have proof (as I did) they'll cover you. THat's my experience and that's what I was told.
This is the way to do it.

Exaggerating just a little bit, but after three days, you can't learn much.

I take great pride in my job, I've been a driver for 18 years and worked on the reload for 5 years. 90% of damages occur due to improper packaging or damaged items were sent out as if they were in good condition.
There are a lot of false claims out there which is why every claim is denied the first time out.

Could it be it was time for the crack to appear? The top on my '93 just developed a crack for no apparent reason.

Most UPS buildings don't have forklifts, we don't have a need for them, everything is unloaded and loaded by hand, and yes, packages do get dropped on occasion, I won't try to fool anyone there. I myself have dropped packages, it isn't on purpose, it just happens.

I'm at the UPS Store every day and I watch how they pack stuff up, they don't do that great a job really.

The transparent tops are one of the most difficult things to package and ship.
I've seen original GM tops come packaged with nothing more than styrofoam on the ends and no damage and I've seen one's bubble wrapped like crazy damaged.
It's a gamble, the key thing is to make sure there is no movement within the box. That brings the possibility of a damdge down extremely.

Peanuts are the worst invention for the packaging world, they should only be used as a filler, not for packing.
Bubble wrap to a point and rigid foam is the best bet.

How many here have received a laptop or other computer through UPS, DHL or Fed Ex? Was it damaged? More than likely not, take a look how it was packaged. Yup, with styrofoam.

If anyone has any more questions or comments, feel free to PM me.

Yep, we receive approx. 5 computers a month (both laptops and desktop systems).
Haven't received a damaged one yet in over 8 years.

Rigid styrofoam works very well.
Not sure about all manufacturers, but Apple and Dell both use it.

I ship (and receive) Corvette parts everyday, I only use UPS. Fedex ground uses franchise drivers and it's been my experience that they don't have much incentive to deliver things in a timely manor or in good condition. My store is 45 minutes from the Fedex depot, I've had packages on their truck for 3 days and each night when I'd track the shipment, the driver would list another story (LIE) as to why they couldn't be delivered.

Anytime I ship a top, I use a box with a couple inches to spare on each side of the top, I put the top in a plastic trash bag and I put the bagged top in the box and fill the box with the expanding, spray in, insulation foam. Haven't lost one yet. Works good for other fragil items, too.
