While I was switching stereos, I found a push button under the dash. Drivers side, next to the kick panel. It works like a reset button. Is this something aftermarket? Any ideas what the button is or could have been used for? I haven't traced the wires yet.
Does it have any crimp connectors, electrical tape or other other evidence of homemade. Is it a momentary pushbutton or do you thing it is a circuit breaker?
Still haven't traced wires. Tonight, with the stereo out, I needed to move the car. Hooked up the battery, park lights started flashing alternating with the dash lights. After hitting the door lock on the fob they stopped. Car wouldn't start. I remembered the button under the dash and pushed while the key was in the start position. Cranked right up. The button seems to be connected to some type of theft device. Will post update after tracing wires.
Not a factory item. From now on, include the year car you are asking help for, they aren't all made exactly the same.
Oops, sorry bout that, my bad. It's a '90. After a closer look, almost certain it's some type of alarm/theft item. It was a clean install. All wires are hidden and I also discovered a toggle switch. I will try to pull the panel off tomorrow, since I'm running new wire for speakers, and see what I can find.

Isn't it fun! I had a non factory **** afixed between the radio and shifter, no one knew what is was for, even the guy I bought it from did not know. When you turned it on two little lights beeped and flashed on the dash above the speedo. One day while under the car I saw modules tucked up under the front and rear bumper, When I scrapped the dirt off they had K-40 stickers. Low and behold a $1200 radar detection system a previous owner had installed. Woo Hoo!
It is indeed an alarm system. At one time, it was one of the best on the market. The toggle switch is a "valet" switch. Still not sure about the button. Guessing some type of reset or start button. Since I don't have any manuals for the car, I'll have to play around with them to get everything figured out. I should be finished with the stereo install tomorrow and be able to start trying different combinations to see what happens. Thanks for all your help.

The button is the ON/OFF switch for the Alarm if a toggle (valet switch) was also found. It works by turning the key to ON and then holding in the button until you hear the horn beep once.
