Default Identifying engine with vin

Is there any way to use the vin to identify which engine a Vette has (i.e. LT1 or LT4 in a 96). Reason I ask is looking at some adds online for 96 CE silver Vettes, some places give little info, but provide a vin. So if I could identify the engine through vin instead of emailing all the listngs, that would make it easier. Also, Was the 96 CE silver with an LT4 only available in 6sp and LT1 in auto? Thanks for any help. :chevy

For LT4 Engine, the eighth digit is a "5"
For LT1 Engine, the eighth digit is a "P"

The collector's edition was available with the LT4 or the LT1. You could get red or black or grey as interior colors. :D
