I was in the market for a C4, in inspecting the car before purchase, are there any question specific to this version I should ask or specific items I should check prior to purchase?
Thanks, Tony
The C4 offered numerous engine / transmission combos, each had their own share of quirks that made them unique. What TPI owners call a problem of the LT1, an LT1 owner will call it's greatest strength, etc. Unfortunately your question is too open ended. Now if you said you were looking at a specific year we might be able to offer more help.
As a general rule, the C4 got more refined and better-performing as the years progressed. So, look for the most recent model with the lowest mileage that you can afford. Pretty open-ended, but that's the gist of it.
I wanted to spend under 10k, preferably a 91 or later with a manual trans, hardtop, but would consider an earlier c4 if I can't find anything in that price range. It would used as an everyday car, but also tracked a couple times a year on road circuts, Driver Ed type events, not real racing. I wasn't sure if there were problems or issues on these cars with higher mileage such as, just for example, overheating, timeing chain, trans, differential, rings, bearings, etc. Just began to consider this type of car, and I was also trying to research what, if any, options were available in this version, such as limited slip rear or if an optional rear diff gears were offered which might help with performance on road courses.
Thanks again
