If the fluid wasn't changed the slave probably has a pin hole that bleeds off pressure and the clutch will not work. That happened to mine. We replaced the master cylinder and the slave. The only problem we had was they kept sending the wrong master cylinder.
is there a way to do a test to find out which one is bad.
I remember when I had the clutch done they did have a problem getting the correct master cylinder and a problem getting a good bleed out of it?
Have you checked the mechanical end of the system ?? Pushrod/fork
If you have lost zero fluid and the mechanical end is good, I would be looking at the master. When a slave goes bad, it leaks. The master may be allowing fluid to pass over seal. Plugging the port on master, should give you a 99% hard pedal.
I would start with someone pushing the pedal, while you watch the linkage at bell housing.
I had a chance to do some investigating today and found that the fluid in the resevoir is very dirty looking.and as I was pushing in the pedal small bubbles were forming. What do you think?

It sounds like your master cylinder is bad...I would recommend to replace both, the mastery cylinder and your slave cylinder...both of these have cause problems to many c4 drivers incluiding myself.... What happened to you happened to me... and I replaced both parts just to be safe and to get both of them to start working at the same time...

You are going to have to bleed the system anyway afterwards, and thats the hardest part. Why risk having to do it twice? Yes, ask me how I know.
I await your "How the #*%$! do I bleed the clutch system?" thread.
