Default Cooling fan does not work!

Can anyone help me find the cooling fan fuse or relay on a 92 c4? It is getting hot and the fan isn't coming on.

Could be one of the fan switches. Locate switch (brass plug in block, 1 on each side), turn ignition switch to "on". Leave on and unplug wire from fan switch, and touch to metal ground. If fan comes on, you have bad switch. Try this on both of them good luck.
I'm from N.S.B. Fl. Have to check out your ride sometime.

The relays on my 94 are on the left lower side of the fan shroud. How hot is the car registering on the digital readout? The primary fan doesn't engage until 226*.

I ran a wire to a switch and to the battery but could only get one of the fans to work but it cools it down just fine.

It was getting well over 226 .

Im putting a 180 degree thermostat in it tonite, ill just run the one fan until i can get more time to look at it.

Thanks for all your help

Ok I found that out thanks, but now im in deeper **** I think.

I drained water out of the rad and put rags all around the thermostat and loosened it up water began coming out so I tightened it back up and checked to see if it would fire cause I was afraid of that optispark.

And it turns over but dont fire !

Will it dry out or am I screwed or could it be something else?

Back to skool.

There are no fan switches in a '92.
both fans are controlled by the ECM alone which gets it's temp signal from the CTS.
(If CTS was faulty ,he would have more than fan problems.)
And when a fan switch is fitted ,as in pre '90 models it is in the head where coolant is hottest , not in the block.
The sensor in the block is the knock sensor.

92 is the non vented opti so its hit or miss. Id get a hair drier in there and hope for the best. The fan relay location on the fan shroud is correct as stated as well as the stock thermostat temp. I reccomemend pulling the rad shroud and looking for debris. Its possible you have sucked in a white pastic bag and other foiliage as the C4 is a well know bottom breather. A quick test to see if the other fan works is to turn on the AC, it should kick on as well as the primary fan. Other than that its a relay, a bad fan, the fan on that side is unpluged (doubtful) or a faulty temp sensor. My money is on the radiator and shroud being full of road debris. Gook luck bro

It is not a faulty "temp "sensor.
This is an integral part of engine operation, fuel management, etc. It is what the car uses to control all functions via the PCM as well as turn on cooling fans and
If the temp sensor (CTS ) was faulty he would be having engine operation problems.

Your right I dont think so knucklehead I listed it as a possibility. His car now wont start which might be now beyond a wet Opti. My money is on the rad shroud and lower half of his radiator is plugged with debris as stated. Fan temps cutoffs and turn-ons are indeed controlled by the PROM in the ECM above the battery. As to your go back to school comment for the other member his statement was correct for a pre MY 90 which he has. It was understandable from his point of view that may have been a area to look at. Granted he should have read the OP posts and profile to see what he had before commented. Try to provide useful information vs being a Richard Cranium to other forum members trying to help.

Theres no debris,I drove it last night after putting a new switch on the fan and it was fine.
Its always ran great with no problems.

I let a fan on the opti all night and it still wont start. It's full of gas and was running fine last night, thanks for all the help with the fan but that problems gone.

WHY WONT IT FIRE IS THE PROBLEM NOW?

The info he gave was not only wrong for the OP MY , but wrong for C4's in general. He will be the first '89 owner to have temp sensors in the block.
He obviously has no idea were the sensors are located in his own car or their mode of operation, let alone a '92

Yeah I know....anyway i got that all sorted out thanks.

But however now i can't get it to start and it was running fine yesterday.

I put a new coil on it just because advance didn' have an ICM but that didn't help.

I had my son spray starting fluid in the throttle body as I turned it over and it almost started for a sec till the hood fell on his head! lol hes ok.

But does that tell me it's the fuel pump or something else maybe an unplugged wire or a fuse or relay?

It sounds like an ignition problem. Double check your ignition components to make sure nothing was unplugged during the thermostat replacement. ICM, Coil, Opti.

ICM is behind the coil. The coil was riveted to it.
