As much as the early c4 get bad mouthed in this forum .It's a wonder that they are not going for less. I owned allot of cars . I remember that they all had problems and bad designs. I have owned my 84 for six years. Only time it left me on the road side .Was when it run out of gas.:o . If you drive down the road and see a older focus for sale for $5000.Don't offer me $3500 for my vete. Buy the focus.
The way I see it, the early C4s are better for modifications. Couple the L98 with virtually unlimited mods as most states only inspect with visuals, and you have the ultimate street machine. Once the LT1 dropped into the scene, the emissions garbage started to limit what they could do with it.
I have an 86, and the only smack that is talked about it is that it needs a paint job - bad.
PS: I know the OP owns a crossfire, but I am generalizing with the "early" c4 crowd, and crossfires can also put out a punch if modded correctly.
The 84 has got the bad rap that will never go away but the truth is there are far more problems with the L98-LT1 cars then a CrossFire car ever had, there were no problems with the 84s as far as reliability issues go.You get people talking $hit about the cars that have never even touched one.One a positive note there are some clean low mileage 84s out there at some good prices.I had one for 22 years and never had a problem with the car that was 84 related but as far as the 84 stigma goes it will never go away as long as you got jerkoffs feeding the fire.Id buy another on in a heartbeat if it wasnt built with so many junk parts.
I only bought my vette for compensation
I think the older engines look better, there is nothing wrong with older c4's except the steering wheel looks a little odd.
