As an unfortunate individual that has had to work in the engine compartment of a C3 many, many times, you gotta love the clamshell!
Previous C3 owner here. 14 years I leaned over those big fenders and tried not to injure the paint at the same time. With a C4 I just throw a towel over the tire and go at it.
Before I bought my vette I was looking at C4s and C5s and one thing I liked about the C4 was the clamshell. I don't know allot about the history on this but I wondered why they did away with it. I've work on cars over the years and wished they would have had a hood like that.
Well, I gotta ask. How do you get the engine out without removing the hood? I've had a lot of Ford trucks and it ain't hard to pull the engine with the hood on. How do you do it with the vette? Put the hoist in from the side?
I DO like the clam shell. It makes doing everything on the engine easier, just sit on the tire and take your time-reach for a beer when things get tough.
