I have changed plugs in AC Cobras/ Sunbeam tigers and once you have work on those cars you wil love the C4 clamshell. There almost as easy to work on as a Sprintcar.

Yes. I like to use the front tire as a convenient built in chair.

I DO like the clam shell. It makes doing everything on the engine easier, just sit on the tire and take your time-reach for a beer when things get tough.

Yes, just pull it out the side. Another thing with the C3, it used to be hard to find a cherry picker with a boom long enough to snag the motor without being up against the nose of the car.

Yup...from the side

When I was doing mine I would mock it up, pull it, move what I had to, and mock it up again. I work alone in my garage (hobby)and as you can see my motor weighs a little more than a small block

The hood is great! I'm also glad it opens nearly vertical and that the wheel wells are two-piece. If you've ever seen a Viper with the hood open, you'll appreciate how much the C4 hood opens up:

It gives easy access to the engine and front suspension. It also looks quite impressive if you have a clean engine. The only thing I don't like is it is difficult to keep everything in a C4 engine bay clean. If you own a C5 or C6, a little simple green on the top panels and you're done.

Personally I prefer the design of the clamshell on the late C4's FAR better than the early C4's.

JUST KIDDING.

I'm wondering here... is mine a mutt? Boom's hood goes straight up Vertical. thats kinda odd. no head bumps for me. guess I'm just lucky.

but as for me, being under a half a dozen hoods a day, I LOVE THE CLAMSHELL!

It is one of the best features of the C4. I was disappointed when it was not carried over to the C5 & C6. Hopefully, maybe the C7 will get this upgrade.

I would seriously question the sanity, taste and intellect of anyone who answers "no".

They do make it much easer to crawl around the engine bay.
Cost me a few pairs of jeans before I broke the habit of leaning into a dressed tire!
