It cuts fuel and it will for lack of a better way to describe it will bap bap bap bap bap quickly. I was leaving work one Friday when a couple of guys were egging me on to jump on the Corvette. I pull it down into first and smash the gas and proceed to do a sideways burnout it got a little too sideways so in my efforts to steer it I forgot all about it being in first so mine was bouncing off the rev limiter. That's another way to describe it the car will bounce off the limiter.
If you have a new model GM daily driver leave it in park and floor it it will bap bap bap off the rev limiter at a relatively low rpm.

Thats funny I have an auto and in my quest to buy a stick i auto shift it and sometimes you do forget! But that engine cut off will remind you quickly!

On a TPI at least ,the factory fuel cut off is set at approx 10,000 rpm.
If you reprogramme it to a useful figure it cuts fuel off dead.
It does not "bounce" off the limiter like an electronic limiter; the engine stops dead until it goes under the restart fuel rpm setting programmed in.
I suggest you are hitting the limits of your ignition system and the spark is breaking down

I thought thats how it worked on the LT1 also. I didn't think it actually "bounced" either.
The factory rev-limiters aren't the most accurate in the world on these cars just like the factory tach. They are of the type that "cuts fuel" for their rev-limiting function where as all the good aftermarket ignitions (MSD, Mallory, Ect...) will instead drop spark to varying cylinders for their rev-limiting function. The factory one is fine as a last ditch safety feature which is really all it was designed for. A LT1 will "bounce" off the limiter which is a real issue when spraying these cars as when it cuts fuel it goes lean. A L98 does not really have a rev limiter.

The L98 does have a rev limiter! The rods and pistons come apart at a certain RPM and it will not rev anymore. Dont ask me how I know this!

Incorrect - at least for the 730 ECM's (SD post MAF)
there is a Fuel Cut RPM and a Fuel Resume - so say cut at 6000 resume 5900 and you get the 100rpm stutter/bouce your talking about.
