I was waiting for this thread to show up. News Flash: a couple of prototype cars that were never available to the public selling high have nothing to do with the value of C4s, rare or not.
Delusion reigns.
Wow...Just hangin' 'round for an opportunity to bestow upon us another of your poison pills, huh? Just couldn't wait to belittle others and inject another dose of your self aggrandizing in attempt to impress (us?) with your elitism by casting dispersions... How pathetic.
If you think you'll be considered wise and astute by way of your constant condescension, you better look in the mirror and take a look at someone that is really delusional.

I'm the one that started this thread. Did I ever mention that since a few cars brought some big $$$$$ that all C4s were worth more?? No. I would have remembered saying that. In fact, I don't think ANYBODY said that.

seems to me that the spirit of what vettebuyer wrote is correct. imo he's reacting to the sometimes overblown, ego-centric posts that are regularly made. they come with the misguided view that their car (base stock c4) is the best thing on the planet, and folks should actually have to bow down. they make ignorant comments about mustangs or imports that half the time could blow their doors off. these are usually posted by the late teens/early 20's crowd.
and looking at his profile i see he owns a C5 as well as some classics. given his professional background, i'd say he's in a solid position to imply either directly or indirectly that the base C4 is in fact the lowest on the totem pole in the corvette community.
so c'mon guys, let's not get so sore. we've got a dime a dozen car, and its value is nearly worthless. the only intrinsic value is what you allow to have in your head -- and that's ok, nothing wrong with that. but let's not let any form of ego seep in.

Cough cough...... We're not the ones with the ego problems 'cough cough.
No one here thinks that their base model 85 with a bajillion miles is gonna fetch 5 or 6 figures. It was a discussion of what some rare well preserved examples are fetching at BJ. Then you and the Peter K of C4Gen arrived.
FWIW, my background includes ASE cert master mechanic. I was the dedicated corvette guy at a small/midsize dealership. I've worked on a one or two of these cars. I could own a C5 at any time........I choose to own a late C4.
[shrugs shoulders and leaves]
well thanks for sharing your thoughts guys. i can't speak directly for vettebuyer, he'd have to clarify, but since he's owned so many corvettes over the years i would say he's had a C4 or two and was impressed the least with it. based on what i've read before, its probably more in the styling dept that he's least impressed with.
i would say that if one has ever owned a C4 -- doesn't have to be at the moment -- then that certainly qualifies them to possess an opinion whatever it may be. why should every post be gleaming accolades? dissention is a matter of public policy, unless of course you live in a totalitarian enviornment.
i guess i have big-time trouble getting upset over any of this stuff because cars don't define me, therefore none of it can possibly get personal. its a replaceable machine, and as such it's placed low on the totem pole of importance. health, family, friends -- that's all that ever matters at all, the rest is relative noise.

I agree there is a delusion among many C4 owners however that same delusion appears to have affected many other Corvette owners of different generations as well.
Hopefully, you two will be marooned on that oasis for eternity with no internet access..................
Too bad these rules are not enforced more specifically for you and VetteBuyer:
