What I have gathered is this was "updated" in 91 to test a bold new color. Similar to "purple smash". It was originally red. I do have a set of 89 ZR1 wheels. Not sure how I will keep it. I need to find out why The General changed them first.
Do you plan to keep the "purple smash" or revert back to the original red? I like the purple, it is a rarity and it looks good on the Z.
Although this is not the actual "Purple Smash" I plan on keeping it Purple. I am currently working on finding out when and why the General painted it. I heard some gueses from the GM folks at the auction on why they painted it, but I want to know for sure. More then likely it was a test of new bold colors. THe GM Heritage center is looking into the past of this ZR1 for me. Hopefully I wil know soon.
Here is the 1989 ZR1 in my garage. been climbing all over it today. Some interesting things. I don't think the spare had ever been dropped. There was a tire bag in above the spare. I assume this was for the large rear tires. Also found some dates on the rear bumper support and the build sheet is still glued to the tank. Could not free it up. I will update when I find more neat stuff. Eric
I would be interested in hearing why you hand picked the bronze C4 and the 95 pace car, what is the story behind them?
The 84 is a two owner 3K mile car with Z51, 4+3, no power locks and base radio. The car had 1,500 of its miles put on it in the first week. The car flight judged at NCRS Chapter meet here in PHX and scored a 99! THen is scored a 98 at the NCRS Regional in Denver last year. That car will be a Cross Flag award car. Still has original Gatorbacks on it.
The 95 pacer is a Canadian export car. One of 23 exported to the Great White North. Has 12 K miles, daytime running lights, metric gauges and a block heater! I drive it quite a bit.
The white 61 is an RPO 687 Fuelie.. one of 233 and has some west coast race history.
Those are some impressive cars! Congratulations on acquiring the Z and on your awards for the 84. It is nice to see an 84 in tip top shape and winning awards. Also nice to see you have taken such good care of the 62 and kept it for all these years.
Really really nice collection! if only? Not sure about this thread though, however I did read the entire thing. I own a low milage '84 Z51 and absolutely love driving it. Entirely original except I upgraded the radio. Wouldn't sell it, might not be as valuable as it should be but it's not for sale!
