I recently got into the C4 scene. The car I bought has a roll hoop and back cage and harness bars. The factory seatbets look like they are on their way out - they dont retract half of the time, and when they do, they never hold tight. I'm thinking of putting in a set of harnesses. I know of the law issues and also about the danger of using race harnesses without neck and shoulder supports/helmets. This car will be used for occasional autocrosses and stuff too.
My question is -
Where are you guys mounting your harnesses' lap belts and anti-sub belts? Is the Brey-Krause thing the only solution? This car has full carpet and stuff, so drilling into the floor like I have done in my race cars in the past is not really a viable solution with this car.
When I installed my race seats I took a look at the seat belt retracts, they were full of hair and 20+ years of dirt. A little cleaning had them working better. Maybe some coins are stuck in yours, I found a penny in one of mine.
Mounting of the lap belts, I put them over the top of the stock belts so I could use both. I just tuck the five point aside when not at the tract. Sub belt I straped to the seat base bracket for the race seats, mine has a solid cross bar.
