I just realized that when i open the hood on my 95 vet, the 2 lights dont come on. Is there anything i can check. ( I also checked previous post and did a search).
There is a connector down in front of the left steer tire by the vacuum ball. A lot of people disconnect it so the lights don't run down the battery if they are working in the engine bay. There is also a fuse in that same area that might have been pulled out.
Thanks for the replies, i did follow the wires and the drivers side was not pushed in all the way and the passenger side was totally disconnected.
I reinserted but the lights are still off, i saw the reply about a fuse, can you tell me where exactly to look and what does it look like.
I checked the fuse box on the passenger side and it mentioned an external fuse but i need some pointers where to look please.
Have you checked that here is 12v at the connectors, then check if there is power to the mercury switches in the lights, also check the obvious things like the bulbs haven't blown or the connections arn't corroded.
A quick check with a multimeter or test lamp will point you in the right direction.
ok thanks i will check the bulbs but i can be sure that before the winter the lights came on, i guess i may have disconnected when i was checking the spark plug wires this summer.
Its strange that they dont work now, but i will check the bulbs.
There is a round vacuum supply tank next to the left side running lamp housing inside the headlamp well. On the inboard side of that tank you should see a small fuse holder attached to the tank. That fuse is for the underhood light. IIRC, you need a 10A (red) fuse.
Removing that fuse is the easiest way to turn off the underhood lamps if the hood is to be left up for any length of time like at car shows or working underhood for extended periods. When I had my '92, I would remove the fuse and just leave it in the console.
Each lamp also has a mercury switch in the lamp housing that turns the light on. It's possible (but unlikely) that they are bad but it's also possible that a previous owner removed them.
