can anyone help??? My friend has a 92 Corvette w/ only 14,0000 miles on it and for the second time in four years he can be driving for 20 min. or so and all of a sudden the car just shuts off let it set for a few mins. and it will start right up and run for a few miles then do the same thing again, he was told it probably was the fuel pump and replaced it and it is still doing it, mind you the three years in between it ran fine.

Check for fuel and spark when it cuts out.
Age is probably more important than miles here.
I had a similar problem with my 92, on my way home from work one day it ran like crap and died a few miles from the house. Wound up replacing the coil and all was well until the waterpump took out the opti.
Sounds like a problem I had with mine, (1992) a while ago. Chased it for 3 years, turned out to be the ING Module behind the coil attached to the right front of the head. Remember to clean it real good, then use the while electronic heat transfer gunk on the back of the module before you install it. I have not had a problem since I replaced it.
Same thing happened to me last week, and I finally determined it was the Coil.
Went ahead and got a MSD coil, and new Ignition coil module...just to be safe! Should be here tomorrow!
Good Luck!
I want to thank all for the many replies he is ordering the coil as we speak.
I'll lay odds that solves the problem. I'm so glad I checked the Forum first. I was a 'noob when mine tanked and I was freaked it was my Opti. Turns out it was the coil and ICM.
