Default Coolant Low Light

The Coolant low light comes on, as the car is warming up, then goes off. I've added coolant and actually am getting some release of coolant through the overflow.
Has anyone else had this experience? Would flushing the radiator be a good idea? 45K miles

Have you checked the continuity on your low coolant sensor? When they go bad, they often cause the Low Coolant Lamp to illuminate intermittently on your DIC. Not expensive to replace, either.

you might have a air bubble in the system.

My vette does that. As the water gets hot it expands and fills the radiator. I think the sensor is just below the cap.

JMO............as long as its not leakin and running hot its probably ok.

the sensor is on the bottom of the surge tank where the cap is. you have to buy the whole tank to replace the sensor. its about a half hour job.

Have you burped the cooling system per the owner's manual?

I had the same problem in my '86 a couple years ago. I flushed out the radiator and changed the coolant sensor. Have not seen that warning since. I believed it was the sensor but the radiator needed a flush anyway, so what the hell.

The low coolant sensor consists of 2 metal tabs that protrude into the radiator...nothin' to go bad in there. Clean the wire connector that hooks to the sensor outside the radiator and ensure that you have properly filled burped the system.

How do you get the wire off? I notice there are two clips, one of mine is broken. But I still can't get the wire off to clean it.
