89 Automatic shift indicator plate

89 Automatic shift indicator plate
I just picked up an 89 coupe and it seems that the shift indicator plate (P-R-N-OD-D-3-2-1) does not seem to fit the hole in the console plate. The opening of the console plate is approx. 6 3/4" and the clear indicator plate is approx. 6 3/8", so there is a space at the back. When I took it apart to fix the indicator needle, I noticed the tabs at the front and back did not even fit into the holes in the black lower panel (the black panel that the indicator needle rides on) and one tab was broken off and even if it was not, it would not fit the holes cut out for them. Is there a different console plate for the 84-89 C-4's and maybe somebody replaced mine with an incorrect style??

If its like my mine, its due to shrinkage with age. I bought my car new and it fit. 20 years later I have about a 1/2 inch gap. I have never been able to find that part in a repo or oem also.
