Default How do you test a coil?

My 94 LT1 would not start today, I put my timing light on one of the wires and it would not light up so no spark. I disconnected the coil wire from the opti and tried the same thing no light. How do I test the coil to confirm it's bad, and what else could it be? Hopefully the ecm and ccm are not bad.

Yes I've checked all the fuses.

For best results compare your resistance readings to a new coil's readings.

An ohmeter will not indicate a turn to turn short which will make a spark coil worthless. The best way to test a spark coil is to pulse the primary winding with 12v and see if you get a spark on the output terminal. Use a plug wire on the output held close to ground, or the - 12v connection on the primary. Also, connect a capacitor, .05 to .1 MFD from 12v to the ungrounded primary wire. That is, from the clip lead you are pulsing on the primary wire to the primary wire. You can use a capacitor from an old points type distributor. You should easily see a nice snappy 1/2" or longer spark.
